5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Background ย  Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP:ย  we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a โ€˜leave no one behindโ€™ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories. ย  UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks. ย  The Programme Management Support Unit (PMSU) at UNDP Zimbabwe plays a critical oversight role, ensuring that the various programmes and projects implemented by the organization are effectively monitored and evaluated. The PMSU Unit operates independently and is not under any specific portfolio, allowing it to objectively assess the performance, outcomes, and impacts of initiatives across all sectors.

As part of its mandate, the PMSU Unit ensures that data-driven insights are provided to inform decision-making, program adjustments, and strategic planning. To support this function, the PMSU Unit is seeking interns to assist with basic M&E activities, statistical analysis, data management, GIS analytics, and supporting management and tracking project results in real-time.

Help track key performance indicators (KPIs) and outcomes as per the programme and project M&E plans. Assist in preparing M&E reports and presentations incorporating data analysis, evaluation results, lessons learned, and recommendations for future improvements.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of project data to evaluate the progress and performance of the CO programmes and projects. Use statistical tools (e.g., SPSS, STATA, or R) to process large datasets and generate insights and trends for decision making purposes. Assist in preparing diverse M&E reports based on analyzed data for internal and external stakeholders.

GIS Analytics:

Conduct GIS mapping, for project locations and intervention, to visualize geographical programme and project coverage. Maintain an up-to-date spatial data set that assist in producing maps for programme and project impact assessment.

Database Management:

Capture data and update existing data in the UNDP CO M&E Database, ensuring real-time, accurate data visualization. Identify any gaps or inconsistencies in the data and suggest solutions for better management.

AI-Based Data Transcription:

Transcribe data from hard copy records using AI tools into soft copies to streamline record-keeping and data entry processes.
