Setting and Reporting The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in Kenya plays a pivotal role in supporting the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and ensuring cohesive UN engagement across the country. As the highest-ranking representative of the UN Development System at the country level, the Resident Coordinator leads and coordinates the activities of the UN Country Team (UNCT) to deliver on Kenya's sustainable development agenda. The UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya serves as the UN Secretary-General's representative, leading efforts to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026. Addressing the Prevention of and Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is a priority within the United Nations. The United Nations in Kenya is a strong contributor to the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) efforts on PSEA. UN RCO Kenya is looking for a motivated national intern to support the PSEA Network contribute to its crucial mandate of systematically integrating PSEA into humanitarian and development programming across the UN System and its partners in Kenya. The UN RCO Intern under the overall supervision of the Head of RCO, direct supervision of the Peace and Development Officer. Responsibilities Under the guidance and direct supervision of the National Peace and Development Officer, the Intern will undertake his/her assigned tasks indicated in the below: 1. Coordination & Secretariat Support โข In coordination with the Peace and Development Officer and the Coordination UN Lead Agency for the PSEA Network, provide logistical and administrative support for PSEA Network activities and meetings, including participation in preparation of presentations, coordination with relevant actors in the network to secure venues, preparation of registration lists, consolidating materials and resources for events and filing them in the correct folders in the PSEA Network and alerting target audience about the materials. โข Take detailed meeting minutes, track action points, and follow up with the National Peace and Development Officer and the UN Lead Agency/coordinator. โข Maintain updated database of Network member organizations and PSEA focal points across Network memberships. โข Assist in consolidating and archiving key documents, ensuring version control and accessibility for network members. โข Update the PSEA Network Membership, including thematic groups โข Track PSEA training and certification 2. Communications & Advocacy โข Draft, edit, and format PSEA-related communications products such as newsletters, fact sheets, FAQs, infographics, and social media posts, quarterly and annual reports. โข In collaboration with existing expertise within the PSEA Network member organisations, support the development of audio-visual content (short videos, graphics) for awareness-raising campaigns โข Monitor media and social media for SEA-related developments and compile summaries for the PSEA Network. 3. Capacity Building & Knowledge Management โข Assist in planning and organizing training sessions for UN staff, PSEA Network members and partners, and community focal points on PSEA, Codes of Conduct, and reporting mechanisms. โข Prepare participant lists, training kits, and feedback forms; assist in pre- and post-training data compilation and analysis. โข Research and compile examples of best practices, tools, and guidance from other UNCTs or humanitarian contexts to inform Kenyaโs PSEA activities. โข Support the updating of PSEA training resources to reflect current policies and global guidance. 4. Monitoring, Reporting & Data Management โข Consolidate updates on progress against the UNCT PSEA Action Plan in coordination with the RCO Focal Points and Lead Agency Coordinator โข Assist in preparing quarterly and annual PSEA progress reports for submission to the Representative of the Lead/Coordinating Agency, RC and UNCT. โข Support the mapping and regular updating of community-based complaint mechanisms (CBCMs) and referral pathways. โข In coordination with the National Peace and Development Officer and the PSEA Network Coordination Lead Agency/Coordinator, support in preparation of survey and assessment tools. 5. Event & Campaign Support โข Provide logistical and administrative support for events such as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, World Humanitarian Day, 16 days of activism and other relevant PSEA related occasions. โข Assist in setting up venues, managing registration, and coordinating with speakers and participants. โข Support on-site communications coverage, including photography and videography 6. General RCO Support โข Assist in other coordination and communication functions of the RCO as requested, particularly when PSEA activities intersect with broader UNCT priorities. โข Ensure compliance with UN guidelines on confidentiality, data protection, and survivor-centered approaches in all PSEA-related work. The internship is for 6 months and is unpaid and will not attract any remuneration or allowances. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Be enrolled in the final academic years of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโs level or equivalent) in information management, document management, digital archiving or a related field of study; Applicants must demonstrate their intention to study further or to work in a field relevant to this internship description. Applicants are expected to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications. Preferred area of study: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree (completed or in progress) in international relations, human rights, law, communications, gender studies, social sciences, or related fields.
