5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Uganda promotes Gender Equality and Women Empowerment through various themes, including Women Economic Empowerment (WEE). The goal of WEE is to ensure women have income security, decent work, and economic autonomy. The 2022-2025 strategic note emphasizes providing technical support to girls to enhance their digital inclusion, literacy, and STEM initiatives. Currently, Ugandaโ€™s WEE portfolio is implementing the third phase of the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI III) to increase women's participation in ICT and coding. The AGCCI III focuses on bridging the technological divide by increasing women's access to modern technology and empowering them through education and employment. This initiative aims to enable young girls and women to contribute to Africa's innovation, industrialization, and growth by mastering ICT.

The project is implemented in collaboration with government ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Ministry of Education and Sports, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and National Guidance, and Uganda Bureau of Statistics. The project will target selected secondary schools and communities in the Eastern, Central, and Western regions to maximize impact by reaching young girls and women at critical stages of their educational and professional development.

Key interventions and deliverables of the project include providing comprehensive digital skills training in ICT and coding to enhance digital literacy and technical skills. Additionally, the project will ensure access to modern technology and resources necessary for effective learning and application. Mentorship programs will be offered to guide and support participants throughout their learning journey, fostering their growth and development in the field of ICT.

UN Women Uganda Country Office is seeking a Programme Consultant to support the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) portfolio. The consultant will be instrumental in implementing the AGCCI III project, promoting digital inclusion, and contributing to economic empowerment by equipping women with digital skills. This initiative aims to enhance women's economic opportunities, promote gender equality by ensuring access to education and employment in the ICT sector, and support sustainable development through increased female participation in innovation and industrial growth.

The key interventions of the AGCCI III project include providing comprehensive digital skills training in ICT and coding to enhance digital literacy and technical skills among women and girls. The project will also ensure access to modern technology and resources necessary for effective learning and application. Additionally, mentorship programs will be offered to guide and support participants throughout their learning journey, fostering their growth and development in the field of ICT.

The key deliverables of the project are increased digital literacy and ICT skills among women and girls, enhanced employment opportunities in the ICT sector for women, and greater participation of women in technological innovation and industrial activities. The AGCCI III project in Uganda is a strategic effort to bridge the technological divide and empower women through education and employment in ICT. By focusing on these areas and leveraging collaborative partnerships, the project aims to create a more inclusive and innovative future for Uganda and Africa.

The consultant will be reporting to Team lead Governance.
