UNICEF uses primary health care as a foundation to deliver results at-scale, through integrated and multisectoral programming, so that children can survive and thrive. Within the UNICEF Strategic Plan 2022-25, the Health Programme focusses on four key priorities:
- Strengthen primary health care and high-impact health interventions
- Immunization activities as part of primary health care
- Health and development in early childhood and adolescence

Immunization is one of the worldโs most effective public health interventions, averting 2 to 3 million child deaths every year. However, millions of children miss out on the full benefits of vaccines each year โ and these numbers have increased over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a leading advocate for equity in child survival and health, UNICEF is well-placed to support countries in accelerating equitable access to vaccines for children in the lead-up to 2030. UNICEF implements health programmes in an estimated 130 countries and supplies vaccines to 45 per cent of the worldโs children under 5 years of age, highlighting its potential to enact change on a global scale.

Under the supervision and guidance of the supervisor, the programme associate supports the respective section (s) by carrying out a range of programme support functions to help develop, implement and monitor their country programme, ensuring effective and timely delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.ย ย
The Programme Associate works in close collaboration with a range of staff in the CO, external partners and agency counterparts in support of programme design and delivery. S/He provides regular feedback on the status of projects through monitoring milestones and advises on improvements to keep activities on track.

Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization is required. For this position, a bachelorโs degree from a recognized academic institution in a relevant field may replace three years of related work experience.* A masterโs degree may replace additional two years.is required. A minimum of six years of progressively responsible finance or administrative work experience is required. Experience in budget and financial planning, monitoring and management is highly desirable. Advanced computer literacy and the ability to effectively use standard office software tools (MS Office, Enterprise database) and other office technology to create documentation, exchange and archive e-mail, and maintain electronic filing systems. Proficiency in using SAP/ERP systems (VISION) will be an asset. General Service Staff are recruited locally. Candidates must be in possession of an existing visa/work permit or be a resident/citizen of Kenya and/or a commuting area to be considered eligible for this position Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset. Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset. Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other UNICEF software such as SharePoint. Fluency in English is required.ย Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
