5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mercy Corps is a leading global organization powered by the belief that a better world is possible. In disaster, in hardship, in more than 40 countries around the world, we partner to put bold solutions into action โ€” helping people triumph over adversity and build stronger communities from within. Now, and for the future. Program / Department Summary The Strategic Leadership Team is a small group of collaborators who partner closely with country and global teams to manage transitions and portfolio risks. This includes meeting short-term leadership needs, onboarding and mentoring new and rising leaders, and strengthening systems to reduce risk in our biggest programs and portfolios. The SLT manages the Alumni Talent Pool, a group of pre-vetted Mercy Corps Alumni qualified to fill temporary leadership roles in our countries of operation. This mechanism has addressed a felt need across the organization to swiftly fill gaps in a variety of country and program leadership roles. Building on this success, the SLT is currently partnering with internal stakeholders to expand the Alumni Talent Pool model to increase Mercy Corpsโ€™ deployment capacity for emergency response. General Position Summary The SLT Program Officer (PO) manages effective and coordinated business processes supporting the daily delivery of the integrated suite of SLT services aimed at the success of regional and country offices. In particular, the PO will actively coordinate with other teams to manage the cross-departmental Alumni Talent Pool through setup and implementation phases. A key element of this work will be the Alumni Talent Pool expansion aimed at increasing Mercy Corpsโ€™ deployment capacity for emergency response. The PO will maintain, update and continuously improve systems and processes related to recruitment and vetting of new members; engagement with members; matching members to employment opportunities; collecting feedback; and maintaining confidential data systems that are actively used to inform decisions.
