The Gender Equality (GE) Division builds off our existing strengths as a foundation in areas like global health and data, partnering closely with all of our global divisions.
The Womenโs Health Innovations (WHI) team under the GE Division is a new team focused on developing and accelerating the introduction and scale of interventions that disproportionately impact health and economic outcomes for women and girls. As such, WHI prioritizes three key areas: family planning/contraceptive technology, gynecological health, and sexually transmitted infections.
Your Role
The Program Officer for Product Introduction helps drive product launch and commercialization plans and activities in close collaboration with the broader Product Introduction and Market Access initiative within the Womenโs Health Innovations team. Specifically, the PO is responsible for managing a discrete portfolio of investments (grants and contracts) in support of the launch and scale of priority WHI products, with a focus on self-injectable contraceptives. The PO also provides research and analysis work in support of grant-making, strategy development, and coordination as well as programmatic work, including hands-on project management support.
This position is a limited-term position for 12 months. Relocation will not be provided.
What Youโll Do
- Lead a set of investments as part of a broader portfolio related to the launch and scale of DMPA-SC, and provide thought partnership to other internal and external partners regarding DMPA-SC.
- Support the execution of product launch activities ranging from, but not limited to: market research and analysis, manufacturing partnership/supply strategy, market access, and procurement and delivery mechanisms/demand generation.
- Synthesize and infuse market and user insights and other downstream development considerations into upstream work and planning.
- Plan, manage and complete a wide range of activities in support of strategic planning, prospect and develop complex investment opportunities, grant management and external relationship management.
- Review letters of inquiry and grant proposals; provide clear, concise and insightful written analyses and recommendations for funding, including drafting and editing proposal summaries and progress reports for existing grants for review by foundation leadership.
- Consult with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants; conduct site visits when appropriate, provide technical guidance, convene meetings and apply and evaluate milestone-based performance objectives.
- Manage internal processes and portfolio progress while ensuring appropriate documentation, grant budgeting and reporting. Improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepare and write briefs and synthesize literature. Provide written analysis of key topics for foundation management. Fulfill data requests from leadership.
- Ensure coordination and collaboration with other internal and external partners where required and timely communication of grantee progress and results.
- Support inclusive culture through modeling behaviors and actions; elevate issues in a timely fashion to appropriate partners.
Your Experience
- Bachelorโs or other advanced degree with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge and expertise in at least one of the fields of reproductive health, family planning, women and girlsโ health or contraception access
- Knowledge and experience in product introduction and market access. Strong preference for individuals with experience working with public and private sectors.
- Experience with grants management highly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of South Africa and East Africa (e.g., Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia) preferred
- Effective collaborator in complex internal and external orgs with demonstrable teamwork skills
- Leadership abilities to work with multiple partners, including government, other donors, grantees to create a common vision and visualize simple and effective but implementable solutions to complex problems
- Comfortable in a wide range of cultural, geographic and operational situations, demonstrating culturally sensitive behavior with a diverse range of people
- Strong understanding of shaping and managing sustainable and scalable ventures
- Experience with research methodologies and deployment of data strategies
- Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills for communicating with a broad and diverse audience
- Extensive project contribution and management experience
- Hands-on team player willing to work in an environment where individual initiative, accountability, and professional maturity are required

The salary range for this role is $169,700.00 to $254,500.00 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington D.C., where our offices are located. The range for this role in these locations is $185,000.00 to $277,400.00 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidateโs job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
