The Environment and Corporate (SENCR) unit in the Global Environment Department includes teams that support the coordination of the World Bank projects, programs and activities related to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and Montreal Protocol trust funds. SENCR also houses the Corporate Responsibility Program (CRP), which leads and coordinates the institution-wide corporate responsibility agenda.ย ย
Roles and Responsibilities ย
ENV is recruiting a Program Officer (ETC2) to support its corporate sustainability reporting agenda, led by its Corporate Responsibility Program. This ETC will work closely with the Sr. Environmental Specialist/CRP Lead to work on publication of the World Bankโs Global Reporting Initiative Index (GRI Index), strengthen partnership with key contributing business units, and provide strategic input into the report planning, development, and promotion process.ย ย
โข Prepare World Bankโs Sustainability Reporting Products (GRI Index & Sustainability Review): Coordinate the preparation of the World Bankโs sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, from planning and drafting to publication and promotion. Update the Sustainability Review webpage. Ensure these productsโ quality, alignment to key corporate messages and strategic directions, and adherence to the GRI disclosure requirements.
โข Drafting & Documentation: Lead drafting the report and developing the Sustainability Review webpage content, including data tables, narratives, and in case of the webpage, visuals. Gather the necessary input from multiple business units, verify accuracy, and ensure completeness against GRI disclosure requirements. Organize data, supporting documentation, and responses for internal review and external assurance providers.
โข Strategic Input & Process Improvement: Provide strategic input on improving reporting frameworks and processes, including materiality assessment, incorporation of stakeholder feedback, and ESG data management and reporting processes. Ensure the reporting practiceโs alignment with other main corporate reporting products (WBG Annual Report, Scorecard, and Climate-related Disclosures) and the global sustainability reporting and regulatory trends.ย
โข Awareness & Training: Provide basic guidance to internal colleagues on data requirements and reporting timelines.
โข Support any other sustainability reporting and ESG-related duties as required to support evolving business needs and priorities.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will have:ย
โข ย Masterโs degree and minimum 5 years of professional experience in sustainability/ESG reporting, corporate responsibility, or related fields (e.g., corporate communications, compliance, or data management), or equivalent combination of education and experience.ย
โข ย ย Solid working knowledge of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards; familiarity with other frameworks (SASB, ISSB/TCFD, CDP) is an advantage.ย
โข ย Proven ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize ESG data into clear, accurate, and compelling disclosures.ย ย
โข ย ย Demonstrated success in coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing timelines for large deliverables, such as sustainability or annual reports. Experience supporting the end-to-end reporting process is required.ย
โข ย ย Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate complex ESG issues and reporting requirements into clear, concise, and accessible requests and narratives.ย ย
โข ย Strong understanding of the WBG corporate structure, culture, and internal processes are a plus.ย ย
โข ย Proficiency in Excel and data management systems; prior use of ESG or reporting platforms is desirable.ย
โข ย Ability to self-manage, multitask, collaborate, and work under pressure. Flexibility is required to meet a constraining schedule due to the nature of the reporting cycle. ย
REPORTINGย
The staff will report to Jiang Ru, Manager of SENCR and will work under the supervision of the CRP Team Lead Sohee Gu.
