Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to the operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from-headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. The internship in the United Nations Archives and Records Management Section (ARMS) of the Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) in the Division of Administration (DOA) in the Department of Operational Support is for three (3) months. ARMS is the archival repository of the UN Secretariat based in UN Headquarters in New York where we operate a public research facility and provide advisory services to UN offices, missions, and staff around the world. To support the research community, we strive to make as many of our archives available online as possible so users can access them anywhere in the world. Likewise, to support our colleagues at multiple duty stations and in field operations across the globe, we provide remote and onsite training and advisory services. Internship Duties: - Surveys records to create a processing plan - Notes and addresses any preservation issues found in the records - Rehouses the records in appropriate acid-free containers - Describes the records as part of a finding aide creation - Prepares records for digitization - Perform other related duties as required Qualifications/special skillsPlease note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements: (1) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (2) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent); or (3) have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above. We seek candidates currently enrolled in an archive or library programme. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States Citizens, permanent residents or another non-immigrant (such as F1 or J1 visa) status will be required to obtain a G4 visa. The selected person will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
