PIH currently has implementation programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Sierra Leone and Navajo Nation. Through our partnership with Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, we support a wide range of programs in dozens of other countries around the world.

Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview

Plumbers are vital members of our infrastructure team under the operations department, responsible for various tasks related to plumbing systems in buildings and structures. The ideal candidate for this position will be actively involved in all aspects of plumbing construction, maintenance, and repair.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Proficient in assembling and installing plumbing fixtures according to specifications and building codes.

• Skilled in cutting, bending, threading, and connecting pipes using various tools and materials.

• Responsible for troubleshooting and repairing plumbing systems, including leaks, blockages, and malfunctions.

• Able to work with a variety of piping materials, such as PVC, copper, and PEX.

• Capable of interpreting blueprints, drawings, and schematics to plan and execute plumbing installations.

• Conduct assessments and generate reports on plumbing systems, noting any necessary repairs or upgrades.

• Collaborate with the Site Supervisor to adjust plans and report any changes in the plumbing layout or requirements.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and regulations at all times.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma, WASSCE or equivalent

• Extensive understanding of plumbing installation techniques and procedures, including knowledge of piping systems, fittings, and fixtures.

• Completion of a technical or vocational school program in plumbing preferred, or relevant work experience.

• Minimum of five years of experience in plumbing installation and repair required.

• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, enduring varying weather conditions.

• Physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks associated with plumbing work, such as lifting heavy pipes and equipment.

• Excellent hand-eye coordination for precise measurements and installations.

• Proficient in interpreting plumbing blueprints and schematics to effectively plan and execute installations and repairs.

• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions efficiently.
