Work LocationBelรฉm, Brazil Expected durationOne (1) month Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground The main mandate of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is to promote sustainable development of human settlements and policies conducive to adequate housing for all. Within this framework, UN-Habitat supports central and state governments, as well as local authorities and other partners for the implementation of the Habitat Agenda, the 2030 Agenda with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer, more inclusive, compact, integrated, resilient and connected places with better opportunities where everyone can live with dignity. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society, and the private sector to help build, manage, plan and finance sustainable urban development. As the world faces escalating climate risks, urban areas are at the centre of both the challenge and the solution. In this context, UN-Habitat plays a leading role in linking climate policy with local implementation. At COP30 in Belรฉm, Brazil, UN-Habitat will co-host the fourth Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change in partnership with the COP30 Presidency and the UN Climate Change High-Level Champions. This meeting will take place on 11 November 2025, at COPโs Blue Zone. The Ministerial Meeting will bring together ministers, mayors, multilateral institutions, and development finance actors to accelerate multilevel climate action. It includes high-level plenary sessions, thematic roundtables, and a press conference. The meeting is expected to generate policy announcements and media coverage, positioning cities and regions as key drivers of climate action. To support visual storytelling and media engagement, UN-Habitat is seeking a professional photographer to document the event with high-quality images suitable for press, digital publication, and social media. Report to UN-Habitat Manager The Photographer reports to the Head of Brazil Office, who will evaluate him/her. Responsibilities The Photographer will support the initiative, and its activities, with the following responsibilities: a) Capture high-resolution photographs of the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change and other relevant events that UN-Habitat is leading on 11 November 2025 , including: a. Belรฉm High-Level Roundtables. b. High-Level Closing Plenary featuring up to 1,000 participants including 100 high level speakers. c. Informal networking and bilateral meetings. d. Visuals of the venue, audience, branding and side interactions. b) Deliver a curated selection of 200-300 edited, high-quality images in both high-resolution (for print) and web-optimized (for digital) formats. c) Organize and name files systematically and provide full image credits and caption suggestions for select images. d) Ensure timely delivery of a small batch of 10โ15 preview images of the Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change and other relevant events that UN-Habitat is leading on 11 November 2025 , for immediate media use and post-event coverage. e) Coordinate with UN-Habitat and COP30 communications teams to ensure key moments, speakers, and branding are adequately captured. f) Use their own equipment (cameras, lenses, lighting, memory cards, batteries, etc.) and take responsibility for its transport, setup, and use. g) Secure accreditation to access the Blue Zone of COP30 in advance. The photographer is responsible for ensuring their own registration and access permissions and for all travel related logistics. h) Ensure all material is delivered to UN-Habitat in accordance with UN ethical standards and data protection policies. The consultant will be responsible for completing all courses and training activities that are indicated to him/her by his/her supervisor. The security course BSAFE, from UNDSS, is required to be accredited during the first month of employment. The consultant will be responsible for his/her own security, so the person should get familiarized with United Nations security mechanisms and comply with them according to the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System. Outputs/Work Assignment The Photographer shall assist the coverage of the event, according to the stated responsibilities and the delivery of the following product: Product 1: Curated image selection o 10โ20 photos delivered on the same day for immediate media use o 200โ300 edited high-resolution photos delivered in two versions (print + web) Deadline: 17 November 2025 Qualifications/special skillsEducation Required: โข Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Film Studies or related fields is required. Work experience โข A minimum of three (3) years of experience in photography is required, with portfolio provided upon request. โข Experience with non-profit organizations is desirable. โข Familiarity with and interest in urban and social issues and global development agenda of the Organization is desirable. โข Previous experience working in the Brazilian context is desirable. Skills โข Proficiency in the use of software such as Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop is required. โข Good computer skills in Windows, as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Web search engines is required. โข Good understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) and its different dynamics and characteristics for adequate application of graphic design products is required. โข Experience related to the UN and/or any other international agency is desirable. Knowledge Management โข The person must know the processes, procedures, and norms of UN-Habitat, to guarantee an adequate quality of the activities described above, following the standards of the organization. โข The person will propose formats and procedures that allow the efficient implementation of the activities related to the project development. โข The person must know the file of the Office, work with it, and ensure its proper maintenance, accessibility for all staff, and due updating. โข The person will prepare databases related to the project running. โข The person will make sure that all relevant technical information will be adequately shared with the correspondent staff. โข The person will ensure that all produced material will be fit-for-purpose and delivered, in an organized way, for posterior consultation and use of the Agency. โข The person will only share the information produced with the team agency, assuring the privacy of the content.
