Mission and objectivesThe UNDP Rome Centre for Climate Action and Energy Transition, leads the development and implementation of program of initiatives in agreement with its partners embracing all areas of the globe in which UNDP is active and present, with particular focus on areas of strategic mutual priority and maintaining a focus on the African continent for the period 2022-2024. It is the principal, integrated global platform for the strategic partnership between the Government of Italy (through the Italian Ministry for Ecological Transition โ IMET) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and acts as an operational platform for delivering on Youth, Climate and Energy Initiatives. Having heard young people loud and clear, the Government of Italy in collaboration with UNDP hosted the second global Youth4Climate event in September 2022, with a strong focus on implementation and on young people powering climate action, in order to meet some of the key aspirations of young people, in particular by signaling enhanced support to youth-led and youth-inclusive solutions and initiatives for climate action and ambition to be implemented in collaboration with UNDP.
ContextYouth4Climate is a global initiative co-led by the Government of Italy and UNDP to boost youth-led and youth-inclusive climate action on the ground, by identifying and strengthening concrete and innovative youth-led solutions and ideas. We support the implementation of youth-led and youth-inclusive climate solutions, both financially and in-kind, for a more sustained climate impact on the ground. Y4C Call for Solutions is an innovation challenge that focuses on developing innovative projects through direct funding and technical support for youth-led projects to generate and implement innovative approaches to drive climate action. In addition to our call for solution, Y4C has an online platform and a mobile app that functions as a go-to knowledge space for young climate leaders and partners to network and exchange opportunities, experiences, and resources. The Call for Solutions, with its guidelines and template documents will be published on this platform. We are looking for at least 10 Online Volunteers to support us with mentoring and/or training sessions for youth in the framework of the Youth4Climate Call for Solutions 2025. The online mentoring sessions will focus on providing technical support and guidance for youth applicants in their application submission process, based on the Callโs guidelines and templates provided.
Task DescriptionWe are looking for at least 20 Online Volunteers to support us with mentoring and/or training sessions for youth in the framework of the Youth4Climate Call for Solutions 2025. The online one-to-one mentoring sessions will focus on providing technical support and guidance for youth applicants in their application submission process, based on the Callโs guidelines and templates provided. . Each session will be scheduled for 45 minutes. Mentor might have from 5 to max. of 8 online sessions per week. This may vary depending on the mentorship needs submitted from applicants. To this end the selected Online Volunteers will work closely with the UNDP Rome Centreโs Youth4Climate team to complete the task as follows: o Select mentoring/training method(s) to be used o Develop outline of content capturing information to be taught/trained based on the call guidelines and the templates (workplan and budget) o Develop coaching/training plan/Programme including schedule of sessions, exercises, and timelines o Review submitted draft workplan and budget before the session. o Run coaching/training sessions with youth requesting support before the submission of their proposal for the Youth4Climate Call for Solution 2025 o Submit report by the end of the assignment, detailing the sessions held. The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with background information and material needed to develop the sessions. Areas of expertise The online volunteer needs to have experience and expertise in: 1. Project management and Project design: - To help applicants understand project baseline, inputs, targets, outputs, outcomes etc. and design their project activities, timeline and budget according to the Call for Solutions 2025 guidelines. - To help applicants to align project activities with goals, construct detailed and realistic work plans, achieve milestones and to answer to other relevant requests as per the templates and guidelines - To aid applicants in designing and developing activities and budgets considering young applicantsโ context, capacities, specificities of their environment, and other points that could be useful for them in designing their proposal. 2. Communication: to support young applicants to promote their innovative ideas through effective internal and external communications. 3. Monitoring and Evaluation: to support applicants in understanding M &E concepts and include plans in their workplan and budget The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with background information and material needed to develop the sessions. Youth4Climate Call for Solutions: - Youth4Climateโs annual Call for Solutions, open to youth aged 18-29 in 159 countries, provides direct and flexible seed funding opportunities to youth-led local climate solutions. - Through our first two Calls, we have awarded 100 projects, across 52 countries, for an envelope of USD 2.5 Million. - Youth4Climate will be launching its 3rd Call for Solutions in 2025, allowing youth and youth-led organizations to submit proposals for funding of up to USD 30,000. - The Call for Solutions will be available in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese). During the application period, a one-to-one mentoring service will be provided to applicants, allowing them to book a slot with a volunteer mentor to support them in understanding work planning and budgeting principles while preparing their proposal for funding.
