Organizational Setting
FAO Azerbaijan Partnership and Liaison Office, in close cooperation with the government and its in-line Ministries/Agencies, contributes to the sustainable agri-food systems, and supports the government with addressing issues food security, agriculture and rural development, natural resource management in the country. FAOโs technical assistance, provided mainly through projects, includes institution building, development of knowledge and competencies, and exchange of experience among FAO member countries.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Azerbaijan, the programmatic guidance and direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative, and the technical guidance of the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), the National Specialist on Soil Surveys will coordinate closely with the National project Coordinator, project team (national and international consultants). The incumbent will be responsible for delivering the following activities.
Technical Focusย
The National Seed Sector Specialist focuses on analyzing seed sector dynamics, including supply, demand, production, processing, marketing, trade, and policy, to inform market strategy development for the Central Laboratory. The specialist will also train laboratory managers on marketing strategies and business development within the seed supply sector.
Tasks and responsibilities
โข ย ย Provide expert support on seed sector dynamics in domestic and international markets including:
๏ญ ย ย supply and demand of seeds of various crops
๏ญ ย ย status of and constraints to production and processing
๏ญ ย ย status of and constraints to marketing and trade of seeds
๏ญ ย ย roles of different actors, seed traders, NGOs and farmersย
๏ญ ย ย the overall policy environment and trends
โข ย ย Develop the marketing strategy of the Central Laboratory by providing expertise on different aspects of the seed supply sector
โข ย ย Carry out the training on marketing strategies and business development for the Central Laboratory managers
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
โข ย ย University degree in agriculture, agribusiness management, or related fields
โข ย ย At least 5 years of experience working with the private/public seed sector or within the context of externally financed projects
โข ย ย Working knowledge (level C) of English
โข ย ย National of Azerbaijan or resident of the country with valid work permit
