The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking an innovative & multi skilled candidate to join its office in Lahore, Pakistan, as a National Researcher \u2013 \u2013 Remote Sensing and GIS.
The National Researcher \u2013 Remote Sensing and GIS will be responsible for performing a variety of geospatial tasks in various donor-funded water resources projects within the IWMI Pakistan portfolio. The researcher will apply advanced data handling and modeling expertise to explore relationships between remote sensing data products and on-ground datasets under the FCDO-funded Water Resources Accountability Programme (WRAP).
The researcher will synthesize spatial information, identify data gaps, acquire missing data using remote sensing approaches, validate the data with state-of-the-art instruments, and analyze the data to estimate parameters for water accounting and water resources assessment. Additionally, the researcher will focus on mapping and monitoring surface water extent and changes due to flooding, as well as estimating water depth and its impact on human settlements, infrastructure, and food security during disasters.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform remote sensing and GIS operations for analyzing spatial and temporal patterns of vegetation water use and analyzing agricultural and water datasets. Perform GIS and remote sensing operations, including geometric corrections, projection standardization, orthorectification, image classification, application of standard algorithms/models, time series analysis using multi-sensor satellite imagery, and preparation of standard outputs. Develop spatial models for processing and analyzing bulk data to estimate parameters for water accounting and water resources assessment studies using Google Earth Engine/Python scripts. Support and direct new climate risk and vulnerability mapping activities, including the use of multi-resolution and sensor data through cloud computing platforms (e.g., ESRI, Google). Support the organization of meetings, workshops, training sessions, and seminars to raise awareness about the project and disseminate lessons learned to a wider audience. Create geospatial datasets and cartographic outputs from primary and secondary data sources. Provide technical support to researchers conducting complex geospatial analysis for various research and management projects. Create content or write articles, blogs, or papers based on collected and analyzed data. Assist in collecting, evaluating, maintaining, and distributing spatial and non-spatial data (and metadata). Provide technical support to researchers in carrying out complex geospatial analysis for various research and management projects. Supervise the development of geospatial web-GIS portals. Perform other related assignments as required.Requirements
