5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking an innovative & multi skilled candidate to join its office in Lahore, Pakistan, as a National Researcher - Climate Change Adaptation.

The National Researcher - Climate Change Adaptation will be responsible for updating and implementing the climate change work of the FCDO-funded Water Resource Accountability in Pakistan (WRAP) Programme: Component 1 (Climate Resilient Solutions for Improving Water Governance / CRS-IWaG). The researcher will carry out climate modeling, including producing high-resolution climate datasets using dynamical downscaling and statistical bias correction to understand the impacts of climate change in the study areas of the FCDO project.

The incumbent will ensure that proposed technical water management interventions are climate resilient and support the climate adaptation framework. Additionally, the incumbent will provide extensive technical support to the IWMI\u2019s WRAP team on developing climate-resilient solutions to address climate shocks, such as floods and droughts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Address the spatial scale gap between global climate models and necessary fine-scale regional models. Utilize existing data, models, and software to extend Deep Learning into the climate Downscaling of large ensembles, thereby better project changes in extreme weather. Downscale global circulation models and reduce uncertainties in circulation patterns. Develop and interpret inter-annual to decadal forecasts and apply statistical pre-processing. Produce high-resolution climate datasets using dynamical downscaling and statistical bias correction. Develop, test, and simulate climate data downscaling prediction and evaluation. Study the effects of present and future climate on climate-smart water management interventions in the FCDO project sites. Provide dynamical downscaling of climate change and weather extremes. Offer specialist advice on physical climate risk management for WRAP technical interventions throughout the project cycle. Provide recommendations and develop internal guidance on climate change adaptation for the project. Develop capacity-building training modules and conduct awareness-raising activities on climate change for the FCDO project. Provide extensive technical support to IWMI\u2019s WRAP team in developing climate-resilient solutions to address climate shocks, such as floods and droughts.
