IOM Maldives works in close partnership with national and local government institutions, non-governmental agencies, community organizations and the donor community to assist national entities to address pressing and complex challenges in migration management, to respond to the needs created by humanitarian emergencies in the country, and to ensure improved living conditions for vulnerable communities.
Working under the overall directives of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager (MECR), theย incumbent will be responsible and accountable for providing programme and administrative coordination for the project tasks assigned in the scope of migration, environment, climate change, and risk reduction.
- Coordinate and supervise Migration, Environmental degradation, Climate Change and Risk Reduction (MECR) activities in Maldives, ensuring programme activities are carried out effectively and on time, providing technical support for programme development, monitoring, budgetary and administrative aspects, in line with IOM policies, practices, and donor requirements.ย
- Maintain close relationships with stakeholders and beneficiaries, including the government, UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), local communities, donors, and participate in appropriate coordination and operational inter-agency fora relevant to the programmes/projects.
- Provide technical guidance on migration, environment, climate change, and disaster risk reduction in Maldives and draft general and/or specific information on programme activities as requested by the supervisor and other relevant counterparts.ย
- Contribute to the strategic direction of MECR, proposing and integrating new approaches and procedures as required.ย
- In close coordination with the Programme Support Unit, Research Compliance and Partnership Unit (RCPU) and other programme units, participate in resource mobilization by drafting technical inputs for the development of new projects, providing information to support the drafting of proposals by other staff, liaising with donor counterparts and supporting the production of communication and visibility tools and materials.ย
- Supervise project support staff, prepare inputs for performance evaluations, and assist in the resolution of team conflicts.ย
- Contribute to narrative and progress reports, cost modifications, public information material, and other documents, as required by IOM and/or project donors.ย
- Check compliance with IOM and donor requirements, including those related to procurement, finance, and human resources, and follow up with relevant IOM support units as required.
- Act as focal point for IOM Sri Lanka in relation to MERC, including to the UNSDCF and other national, regional programmes, initiatives as requested.ย
- Monitor project/programme development initiatives in other IOM member states and document best practices.ย
- Undertake duty travel in Maldives relating to project activities, monitoring and liaison with counterparts.ย

- Bachelorโs degree in climate change & environmental management, environment & sustainability, migration studies, social sciences or related fields from anย accredited academic institutionย with four years of relevant professional experience; or,
- Masterโs degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.

- Experience in the field of migration issues, including operational and field experience, project development, management, and reporting.ย
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, donors, academia, other national/international institutions, and NGOs. Skills
- Understanding of migration in relation to environment, climate change and natural hazards.ย
- Demonstrated level of expertise in the thematic area relevant to project development.ย
- Sound knowledge of international fora and policy process in the areas of migration, climate change, environment, disaster risk reduction, knowledge of frameworks such as UN conventions on climate change, ecosystems, desertification etc.ย
- Understanding of legal frameworks human rights approaches, soft law and protection issues related to environmental migration.ย
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.ย
- Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.ย
- Knowledge of international fora and policy process in the areas of migration, climate change, environment, disaster risk reduction.ย
- Knowledge of legal frameworks human rights approaches, soft law and protection issues related to environmental migration. Languages
