The Position
This position will lead Strategic Communications in UNFPAโs Country Office in Hanoi, Viet Nam. Reporting directly to the UNFPA Country Representative, you will collaborate with programme managers, the Viet Nam One UN Communications Team, the Regional Communications Adviser and the wider team including as part of UNFPAโs global communications network to promote the UNFPA mandate and work at country, regional and global levels.ย

Job Purpose
Communications are at the heart of UNFPAโs programmatic and advocacy work as well as UNFPAโs brand identity. The Communications Analyst (Communications for Advocacy and Partnership) position is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring a range of creative communications covering multiple platforms and channels to promote both the results of programmes to raise visibility and recognition. You will also support UNFPAโs broader communications work in Viet Nam in collaboration with national partners, donors, media, and UN agencies. In particular you will:
Develop a communication and advocacy strategy under the guidance of the Representative, to include high-level campaigns and creative opportunities to position UNFPA Contribute to the implementation of theย publications strategy and plan based on the corporate publications policy Supervise the design and maintenance of the web page, social media presence and knowledge management systemย Contribute to enhancing the capacity of the Office to build trustworthy and sustainable partnerships Provide strategic advocacy and communications advice to Senior Management and Programme Managers, especially in relation to the Country Programme. Supervise contingent communication workforce when required.You would be responsible for:
A. Communication strategy:
Review, design and update the Country Communications and Social Media Strategies;ย Manage the implementation of the communications strategy, preparing annual work plans and updating them on a regular basis; Lead and oversee the development of all types of methods of communication including print, TV, radio, web, photography, videography, digital, newsflashes for the country programme, and speeches to reach the media and the public; Facilitate training sessions to improve and increase media/communication skills and capacity of country staff;ย ย ย ย ย Organise and facilitate field visits for strategic media focal points on programme, UNFPAโs mandate or relevant topics;ย ย ย ย ย Create a well-catalogued electronic photo and video library connected to UNFPAโs global media hub.ย ย ย ย ยB. Publications strategy and plan based on the corporate publications policy.
Identify and develop story lines for publications and substantive articles contributing to debates on development issues relevant to UNFPAโs mandate and country programme focus; Conduct daily media scanning and summary in regard to topics related to the programme to inform the office staff, operating a functional internal alert system; Contribute to publication activities to ensure corporate brand and style is met.C. Web Based Knowledge Management Systemย
Maintain the Country Office webpage, including projects/programmes specific pages and based on corporate requirements in cooperation with the ICT staff; Supervise and prepare content for the web site ensuring consistency of the materials; Strengthen and maintain the Country Officeโs knowledge management system via working with programme managers and the M&Eย officer to ensure all knowledge products are catalogued and widely disseminated.ยD. Sustainable Partnerships and Advocacyย
Participate in the UN Communications Group; Assist in evidence-based advocacy efforts for the country programme and broader ICPD agenda with national institutions and other UN agencies; Pursue innovative ways to maintain and create new partnerships with government, non-government agencies, development partners and donors, private sector in communications related areas and maintain a continuous flow of information;ย Create, promote and contribute to UNFPA global campaigns for local media that position UNFPA mandate and its country programme and influence on-going development work, based on current programmes and new initiatives; Support advocacy initiatives such as the organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews, launches; Develop and maintain media contacts and networks, providing newsworthy information toย public and donors to increase coverage and understanding of UNFPA mandate and UNFPA's work in the country, while ensuring coherence in public information activities and messages; Contribute to annual reporting of the country programme and formatting and packaging of key materials for the donor in close collaboration with programme staff as required.E. Provide strategic advocacy and communications advice to Senior Managementย
Liaise with the UNFPA Regional Office to keep the Country Officeโs communications work aligned with UNFPA's regional and global communications efforts; Provide guidance and support to Senior Management in planning and implementing advocacy and communication activities that project UNFPA's branding and image accurately and effectively; Cooperate with all teams within the Country Office to provide support for all advocacy and communication requirements including on population-specific issues such as ethnic minorities, rural communities, LGBTQIA+ and persons with disabilities; Provide guidance to and liaise with all other personnel so that media and communications are integrated through their respective programmatic activities.ยAny other activities/responsibilities as assigned by UNFPA.
Qualifications and Experience
Educationย
Advanced university degree in communications, media relations, journalism or relevant social sciences.
Knowledge and Experienceย
Minimum two (02) years of professional experience in communication, media, broadcast, media relations, or public relations, including building and maintaining relationships with journalists; researching stories; organizing press conferences; writing press releases and news for website and social media. Experience of internal communications including communication of key corporate messages. Experience of managing the production of printed material, including brochures, leaflets, briefing third party designers/printers to ensure corporate brand and style is met. Experience in managing websites and social media accounts. Experience in planning and managing public events. Proven ability to write and edit engaging news, stories, and feature articles, as well as compelling social media content. Sound editorial judgement, analytical ability and sensitivity to the issues UNFPA addresses. Good facilitation and coordination skills, demonstrated ability to work in an independent manner and meet tight deadlines. High sense of responsibility. Tact, discretion, initiative and good judgment in dealing with staff members, partners and other stakeholders. Proficient computer skills and experience with software packages essential to create compelling content (print/visual/online). Photography and videography skills will be an asset.Languages (beyond Vietnamese)
