5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNICEF in Turkey works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkey since 1951. UNICEF's programme in Turkey focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

ContextToday, more than ever, UNICEF is faced with a wide range of emergency crises differing in scale, complexity, and international consequences. The DPC People in Humanitarian Action Team (PHA in Istanbul) provides specific support to regional and country offices in recruiting, deploying, and managing people and culture in these crises. The People in Humanitarian Action team has a dedicated humanitarian learning and development function focused on strengthening the capacity and capabilities required for humanitarian action.

Task DescriptionThe volunteer will create visually appealing learning content that displays information in an accessible and compelling way. The humanitarian learning pathway's visual identity seeks to shift the learnersโ€™ mindsets toward being ready to work in sudden-onset disasters (e.g., tsunamis, earthquakes), public health emergencies, refugee crises, and conflict and high-threat contexts. Working in emergencies comes with extreme pressure, constant and rapid change, ambiguity and complexity, and high levels of compounding personal stress. This content will be suitable for a diverse range of learners across cultures and contexts with different learning capacities, preferences, and styles. The video branding and visual aspects should comply with the UNICEF Brand Book and Editorial Style Guide. The design should be user-friendly and accessible on various devices and comply with UNICEFโ€™s accessibility guidelines for people with disabilities. MULTIMEDIA CONTENT DEVELOPMENT (1 volunteer) Deliverables: Produce engaging multimedia content such as videos and animations using Synthesia and Articulate Storyline, as well as the standard graphic design and multimedia tools. 1) Drawing on UNICEFโ€™s repository of videos capturing work in emergencies, select sections to be extracted, add a voice-over, narrative, and source acknowledgments, and create up to 10 x 30 seconds of video. 2) Develop a 1 x 2-minute video that captures one of UNICEFโ€™s senior managers introducing the learning pathway. 3) Develop 2 x 1-minute videos to capture the experiences of UNICEFโ€™s current emergency responders. COLLABORATION AND ALIGNMENT (cross-cutting tasks) โ€ข Gather feedback from stakeholders to improve the design and multimedia content. โ€ข Participate in regular meetings to discuss progress and updates. โ€ข Collaborate with the assignment supervisor and instructional designers to ensure coherence between the text and learning activities (to be developed by the assignment supervisor) and the accompanying multimedia elements.
