Mission and objectivesUNICEF in Turkey works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkey since 1951. UNICEF's programme in Turkey focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
ContextToday, more than ever, UNICEF is faced with a wide range of emergency crises differing in scale, complexity, and international consequences. The DPC People in Humanitarian Action Team (PHA in Istanbul) provides specific support to regional and country offices in recruiting, deploying, and managing people and culture in these crises. The People in Humanitarian Action team has a dedicated humanitarian learning and development function. Some UNICEF staff are more accustomed to working in stable, safe, and development-oriented contexts. The humanitarian learning pathway's visual identity seeks to shift the learnersโ mindsets toward being ready to work in sudden-onset disasters (e.g., tsunamis, earthquakes), public health emergencies, refugee crises, and conflict and high-threat contexts. Working in emergencies comes with extreme pressure, constant and rapid change, ambiguity and complexity, and high levels of compounding personal stress.
Task Description The volunteers will create visually appealing learning content that displays information in an accessible and compelling way. This content will be suitable for a diverse range of learners across cultures and contexts with different learning capacities, preferences, and styles. The video branding and visual aspects should comply with the UNICEF Brand Book and Editorial Style Guide. The design should be user-friendly and accessible on various devices and comply with UNICEFโs accessibility guidelines for people with disabilities. GRAPHIC DESIGN (1 volunteer) Deliverables: Design intuitive and visually appealing interfaces for six learning domains. Each learning domain comprises 6-10 bite-sized learning activities, many of which have already been designed. The specific deliverable is to provide the visualization and design of: 1) The landing page of the overall surge learning pathway 2) The landing page of each learning domain 3) The โtransitionโ and introductory pages between each learning activity (the equivalent number of graphics to 10 PPT slides). 4) The graphic design for up to 10 bite-sized learning pieces (10-minute courses using the Articulate Rise authoring tool). This would equate to approximately 10 x 8 slides of PPT. MULTIMEDIA CONTENT DEVELOPMENT (1 volunteer) Deliverables: Produce engaging multimedia content such as videos and animations. 1) Drawing on UNICEFโs repository of videos capturing work in emergencies, select sections to be extracted, add a voice-over, narrative, and source acknowledgments, and create up to 10 x 30 seconds of video. 2) Develop a 1 x 2-minute video that captures one of UNICEFโs senior managers introducing the learning pathway. 3) Develop 2 x 1-minute videos to capture the experiences of UNICEFโs current emergency responders. COLLABORATION AND ALIGNMENT (cross-cutting for both volunteers) โข Gather feedback from stakeholders to improve the design and multimedia content. โข Participate in regular meetings to discuss progress and updates. โข Collaborate with the assignment supervisor and instructional designers to ensure coherence between the text and learning activities (to be developed by the assignment supervisor) and the accompanying graphic design and multimedia elements.
