Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The โEcosystem Restoration and Sustainable Land Management to Improve Livelihoods and Protect Biodiversity in Nauru (GEF 10161)โ project is a full-sized initiative with a GEF grant of USD 3,502,968. Its main goal is to achieve land degradation neutrality and improve ecosystem services in Nauru through integrated landscape management and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. To accomplish this, the project aims to contribute to the achievement of GEF Global Environmental Benefits, including Conservation and sustainable use of globally significant biodiversity, Improved provision of ecosystem services and Carbon sequestration benefits. In terms of national priorities, the project addresses a significant proportion of the countryโs relevant targets outlined in the National Integrated Environment Programme, the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and other key documents.
