Position Overview:

The Mental Health Clinician will play a critical role in strengthening the mental health workforce in Maryland County. This position aims to expand access to mental healthcare services, improve patient engagement, and enhance the quality of care for individuals with mental health conditions. This position is designed to reinforce the clinical mental health workforce in Maryland County, improve the frequency and quality of patient interactions, and ensure the delivery of effective, patient-centered mental healthcare.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Ministry of Health (MOH) clinicians to support mental healthcare delivery at assigned mental health clinics.
  • Assess, diagnose, and provide care to patients at mental health clinics, static clinics, and hospital wards.
  • Schedule patient appointments and work closely with caregivers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Supervise primary healthcare clinicians providing mental health services.
  • Deliver care to patients in the community, including homeless and other vulnerable populations.
  • Respond to inpatient and emergency mental health consultation requests.
  • Provide mental health and wellness support to PIH staff.
  • Participate in community and facility-based mental health promotion, awareness, and prevention activities.
  • Receive supervision, mentoring, and professional development guidance from the Mental Health Coordinator and senior clinicians.

    Programmatic responsibilities

    • Document mental health activities and report to mental health coordinator.
    • Support mental health program monitoring, evaluation and quality improvement activities.
    • Ensure the documentation of all patientโ€™s information, including detailed history and treatment plan in patientโ€™s registers and in the electronic medical record.
    • Support mental health coordinator in his administrative and programmatic tasks such as reporting, planning and logistical coordination for mental health activities.
    • Carry out other tasks within his/ her professional competencies determined by his/her supervisor.

      Qualifications:

      • Certification as a Mental Health Clinician in Liberia is highly desired.
      • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, or Masterโ€™s degree in Mental Health Nursing or Social Work; licensure is a plus.
      • Must have the ability to prescribe psychotropic medications in Liberia and supervise others who do.
