Work LocationKampala, Uganda Expected durationOne year, with possibility of extension Duties and ResponsibilitiesBACKGROUND: Trade for Jobs Uganda is a five-year initiative (2025โ2030) co-led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). Using a market systems approach, the project leverages trade as a driver for decent job creation and income generation for women and men living in poverty in Uganda, by strengthening two high-potential sectors: dairy and tourism. The project will build toward national objectives and priorities on developing the production, productivity and value addition of both sectors, as outlined in the National Development Plan (NDP) IV (2025/26-2029/30). It intends to do this for the project beneficiaries โ women and men living in poverty, through: โข Strengthening regional and global trade of dairy products and tourism services, with a focus on micro enterprises and SMEs. โข Supporting private sector development for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including through value addition, diversification, enhancing competitiveness, and improving the business environment. โข Engaging with Swedish companies to leverage their expertise, services, products and private investment potential. The project will adopt a market systems approach as it is an approach that focuses on delivering long-term sustainable impact at scale. The approach is analysis-focused, partner driven, and driven by evidence-based adaptation. RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the ITC Trade for Jobs Uganda Project Manager and in close coordination with the Trade for Jobs Uganda Deputy Team Lead, the Advisor will perform the following duties: โข In collaboration with the project team and with support partner specialists, contribute to the development and implementation of the projectโs communications and visibility strategy in line with organizational guidelines, ensuring consistent messaging, branding, and stakeholder engagement. โข Contribute to the production, review and dissemination of information materials including press releases, newsletters, success stories, infographics, videos, and social media content that highlight project achievements in the dairy and tourism sectors. โข Contribute to the planning and coordination of visibility and outreach activities such as events, exhibitions, fairs, and media engagements to promote the projectโs impact and partnerships. โข Contribute to coordination of partnership with national and local media to ensure accurate coverage of project activities. โข Collaborate with team members to ensure alignment, synergy and efficient workload management through all project interventions. โข Support the development and operationalization of a knowledge management plan to capture, store, and disseminate insights, lessons, and good practices emerging from project interventions. โข Work closely with the Monitoring and Results Measurement Officer to transform monitoring data and results into accessible learning products, including case studies, evidence briefs, and policy notes. โข Support documentation of systemic changes, crowding-in effects, and success stories demonstrating trade-driven job creation and MSME competitiveness improvements. โข Establish and maintain a digital repository of project materials, including photos, reports, and communication outputs, ensuring easy retrieval and institutional memory. โข Work with the technical team members to collect technical inputs, activity reports, project results and use them to develop communications products. โข Contribute to ensuring project knowledge and communication products are tailored for diverse audiences including government partners, private sector actors, development partners, and beneficiaries. โข Liaise with organizational communication focal points to align project communication outputs with institutional standards and obtain necessary clearances. โข Perform any other communication-related duties as requested. Qualifications/special skillsEDUCATION: An advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) in communication, journalism, (social) media, business administration, business, economics, or any other relevant field. A first level degree in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Additional training or certification in knowledge management, digital communication, or monitoring and evaluation would be an advantage. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) two years of experience in communications, media, or public information or related field. Experience working with the private, public, or development sectors. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, producing knowledge and visibility materials, and managing media desirable. Experience working in development cooperation or private-sector development projects desirable Experience in projects related to trade, MSME competitiveness, or market systems development, desirable.
