IOM Cyprus operates since 2020 the project Operation of Semi Independent Living Units for Unaccompanied Migrant Children which is fully funded by the Social Welfare Services of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare. Under this project since 2025 a new component has been added to set up and operate a 24 hour supervised emergency shelter provided to Unaccompanied children under 16 years offering specialized services. Context
Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Associate (Shelter), and in the framework of the accommodation services for unaccompanied migrant children under 16, the Kitchen Assistant will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Maintain the cleanliness of the space and kitchen equipment.
- Prepare and cook meals, particularly breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, twice per day.
- Record the kitchen's supplies and shortages in consumable materials and tools and submitting a report to the Shelter Coordinator. Ensure quality of services, cost-effectiveness and transparency.
- Follow and ensure compliance with food safety handling policies and procedures, including personal hygiene procedures.
- Follow the instructions given by Shelter Administrator, in terms of operations and preparations at the assigned facility.
- Participate in all staff meetings and communicate with other teams on needs related to meal planning activities.ย
- Train the beneficiaries in the preparation of meals.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Education
- High School diploma with at least on years of relevant work experience.ย
- Certificate of relevant professional experience or certified training is an advantage.
- Updated and valid health certificate and successful examinations for food handlers, are mandatory.ย Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. ย Experience
- Existence of experience in a similar role
- Willingness to work in morning shift, including holidays and weekends
- Experience working with children and/or vulnerable population preferred
- Previous experience working in a multi-cultural environment preferred. Skills
