Job description

Within GIZ, the department International Services (GIZ InS) is in charge of clients such as intergovernmental organisations, development banks, governments and private companies. In implementing projects for this broad range of clients, InS follows the GIZ mission of sustainable development for a liveable future. We offer our clients highly competent and efficient teams of German, international and local professionals in more than 120 countries.

GIZ InS is currently implementing the EU funded project “Support to border management institution (MRCC)” in Tunisia. The project’s objective is to contribute to the improvement of Tunisia’s Search and Rescue (SAR) capacity through reinforced border management institutions to conduct SAR operations at sea and the fight against migrant smuggling and human being trafficking by supporting increased collaboration between Tunisian actors via a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC). The project, by reinforcing the MRCC (methodologically and technologically), also supports increased inter-institutional collaboration with respect to the safety at sea and the rescue of people in need.

To support the implementation of the project, we are looking for a Junior Project Manager (m/f/d):

Your tasks

In close cooperation with experienced colleagues you will support the implementation and backstopping of the project. This will include:

Ensuring high quality project implementation through professional project management. Supporting the project team on site by acting as an interface with GIZ headquarters, donors and other stakeholders. Supporting the mobilization of short term experts. Ensuring high quality reporting in accordance with the donors’ requirements.

Your profile

University degree in political/social science, area studies, economics or a similar field. Initial professional experience (e.g. acquired through internships) in project management in the context of development cooperation. Initial experience (esp. in project implementation and donor relations) with service contracts with international donors. Knowledge of and strong interest in current political and social developments in the MENA region (Middle East/North Africa), ideally with a focus on Tunisia. Strong and demonstrable interest in current trends and developments of development cooperation. High intrinsic motivation for sustainability and international cooperation. High analytical skills, ability to perform in high-paced environments and a team player attitude. Practical and problem-solving orientated mindset. Business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, in particular Excel and PowerPoint. Full fluency in English, French and Arabic is essential. Fluency in German would be an asset.
