The Corporate Services Division (CSD) is responsible for enabling UNEP's operations through the provision of administrative, human resources, legal, and financial services. This consultancy is located in Legal Unit of the Corporate Services Division, Nairobi duty station. The Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Legal Unit to: 1. Support the development, refinement, and organization of legal templates, standard operating procedures, and internal guidance materials. 2. Maintain and update legal databases, case management systems and document repositories, ensuring proper version control and tagging. 3. Support the development of knowledge management initiatives and products, including legal resources for internal and external use 4. Provide administrative support, including organizing legal meetings and workshops, assist with legal training, preparing agendas, and drafting meeting minutes. 5. Provide administrative support including preparing meeting summaries, assisting with legal correspondence, and coordinating follow-up actions from legal meetings. 6. Conduct legal and policy research relevant to UNEP’s mandate, including administrative law, and institutional legal frameworks and present findings in short memos 7. Assist Legal Officers in reviewing agreements and legal documents, preparing summaries, and tracking key legal issues. 8. Draft background notes, legal memos, and templates under the guidance of Legal Officers. 9. Act as a backup to the Legal Assistant, including during periods of absence or increased workload, by supporting legal filing, docketing and assignment of requests for legal support, agreement tracking, scheduling, and meeting preparation. 10. Assist in onboarding and knowledge-sharing for new staff including interns as needed. 11. Perform any other tasks requested by the Head of the Legal Unit to support efficient legal service delivery. Qualifications/special skillsMinimum of 2 years of relevant experience in legal research, practice, or advisory services is required. An advanced degree in law or related area is required. A first level university degree in law or related in combination with two additional years of experience will be accepted in lieu of the Master'd degree. A practicing certificate is desirable. Experience in database management and drafting legal advice is required Experience in an international context is desirable. LanguagesFluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
