Mission and objectivesIOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. Over the last 25 years, IOM has continuously enlarged its engagement in new fields of concern encompassing a wide range of activities in many programmatic areas such as: labour migration and human development; counter-trafficking; technical cooperation on migration management; migration health; emergency and post-crisis migration management; and resettlement.
ContextEgypt has been an observer state to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) since 1974 and became a full-fledged member in 1991, at which time IOM established its mission in Cairo with the purpose of assisting foreign nationals who had been forcefully displaced by the Gulf War to voluntarily repatriate or resettle in third countries. Since entering into Agreement with the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt (GoE) soon thereafter, IOM Egypt has since established productive working relations with migration-related ministries, as well as UN partners and civil society. The Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Unit at IOM Egypt supports relevant Governmental authorities in enhancing their capacities to manage borders efficiently in a coordinated and integrated way. Current and upcoming interventions include training, provision of equipment and infrastructure for different Egyptian Ministries mandated with border management in Egypt. Training topics include International Migration Law (IML), rule of law, rights-based border management, Integrated Border Management (IBM), Humanitarian Border Management (HBM), maritime law and SAR (Search and Rescue), countering-cross border crime, development and trade, legal identity and cross border cooperation in the above domains. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager the successful candidate will be providing technical and administrative support to the thematic programme in support of border management authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Programme Manager of the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: โข Assist in the implementation and coordination of activities under the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) related projects. โข Assist the Programme Manager in contributing to the development of concept notes, ToRs and correspondence as related to the project. โข Assist the Programme Manager in drafting documentation including strategic documents, memorandum of understanding, cooperation plans, talking points, etc โข Support the development and standardization of templates (reports, questionnaires, surveys, profiles, application, feedback and interviewing forms and others) related to the IBG Programme. โข Support the drafting of minutes of meetings, reports (external and internal reports) and other written materials/documents related to the Programme deliverables. โข Assist in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of different Programme activities and update the teamwork plan accordingly. โข Coordinate trainings, workshops, meetings and other Programme related activities in term of logistical and operational support. โข Liaise with other IOM staff members on administration, financial, logistics, and operational matters in support of Programme activities. โข Carry out data collection and entry for capacity building activities and of relevant beneficiary data, in line with IOMโs Data Protection Principles. โข Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. โข Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment; โข A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in, and capacities developed.
