5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

N Women Libya has strengthened its programme presence in Libya, responding to the complex governance, humanitarian, development, and security challenges through its triple mandate. UN Womenโ€™s Libyaโ€™s premise is that peacebuilding efforts, including political dialogues, conflict resolution, and humanitarian efforts will be more effective and have higher chances of success if they are inclusive, responding to gendered experiences, needs, capacities, and interests the Libyan women across their diversities, this includes supporting womenโ€™s participation in peace processes at all levels. The program is aligned with the UNSDCF 2023-2025, UN Women Global Strategic Plan (2022-2025) as well as the international conventions on women and human rights.

The consultant will be reporting to the WPS Programme Analyst, and will be supported by WPP Programme Officer, who will be the point of contact on the contract and payment issues.

Description of Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Women, Peace, Security Programme Analyst, and the overall supervision of UN Women Libya Head of programmes, the Intern will work in close collaboration with the Programme Team, ensuring timely support in carrying out proper processes and activities related to the Programme as well as other cross-cutting areas of knowledge management, research, and analysis.ย ย  The intern is expected to undertake the following specific task:

Provide technical support to the formulation and management of programmes in the thematic areas of Women, Peace and Security, and Womenโ€™s political participation programmes in Libya; Contribute to building partnerships and resource mobilization strategies by analyzing the Libyan political landscape, ODA, and donor landscape; Provide inputs to advocacy, knowledge building/sharing, and communication efforts; Provide administrative support to the Programme Unit; Assist in planning and conducting public events such as conferences, seminars, and report launches; Support the preparation of briefing material for high-level meetings, seminars, workshops, and international visits.

Education:

University studies in one of the following disciplines: gender studies, human rights, international relations, literature, politics sciences or other relevant subjects is required.ย  Meet one of the following:ย  Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);ย  Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);ย  Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; orย  Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.ย 

Language:

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.ย  Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:ย 

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
