Mission and objectivesThe United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism.
ContextThis assignment supports UNV’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) in Moldova through an inclusive webinar aimed at dialogue, trust-building, and joint planning. The session will bring together representatives from OPDs and the UNV Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia to discuss priorities in disability-inclusive volunteering. To ensure that the exchange is fully accessible to all participants, including those who use International Sign, we are engaging an Online Volunteer to interpret the session from spoken English into International Sign. This contribution is essential to uphold the principles of accessibility and equal participation, as outlined in the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The webinar is tentatively scheduled for 30 June 2025 at 2:00 PM EET, with final confirmation and access details to be shared with the selected volunteer in advance.
Task DescriptionThe Online Volunteer will provide real-time interpretation in International Sign (IS) during a live Zoom webinar organized by the UNV Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, in collaboration with OPDs in Moldova. The session will include OPDs participants and will focus on disability rights and inclusive volunteering. The Online Volunteer will be responsible for interpreting spoken English into International Sign for approximately 1.5 hours during the live session. They will also participate in a short preparatory briefing to review the agenda and key terminology in advance. Throughout the session, the interpreter is expected to ensure accurate, respectful, and accessible communication. In addition, they should maintain a clear and professional visual setup, including proper lighting and camera framing, to support visibility of signs. This assignment plays a vital role in ensuring equal participation and accessible communication for deaf participants. It contributes to advancing inclusive communication practices in line with the CRPD.
