The Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂźr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is offering a six-month internship in the International Services Division from 24.02.2025. We are looking for an intern for the Anglophone Africa Team. The intern will support the Team in the day-to-day business of the division, especially in project acquisition.
In addition to working for the German Federal Government in the context of bilateral development cooperation, GIZ also works for numerous international clients. Through its business area GIZ International Services, GIZ offers its experience and know-how in the form of a results-oriented service on the international market.
The Africa Team of GIZ International Services responds to calls for proposals from the EU, SDC, World Bank and other donors on a wide range of topics in the region. Donor-specific bids on various topics are prepared and placed in competition with other organizations. If the bids are successful, the projects are launched and implemented.
The Anglophone Africa Team is currently implementing projects in the areas of rural development, education, energy, health, infrastructure, governance, peace and security in Ethiopia, Ghana, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania.
Your tasks
As part of your internship, you will support the Anglophone Africa Team in project management and the acquisition of new projects. Your tasks will include, among others:
Supporting the project managers and the regional director in project acquisition and bid preparation in the tender business, especially for the European Commission Market research and screening of new project opportunities in the tender business Thematic research and information preparation Communication with other GIZ departments Supporting the project managers in the implementation of ongoing projects Administrative and organizational support of the TeamThe internship offers you the opportunity to take on tasks autonomously in a small international team and to gain a comprehensive insight into the structures of the GIZ as well as into international cooperation with African countries.
Your profile
You are studying from the fourth semester onwards in economic, political or social sciences, in African studies, Climate Studies or agricultural sciences, or in another relevant field of study (for university graduates, the degree must not have been completed more than six months ago) Interest in international cooperation and development Knowledge of project management is an advantage Excellent written and spoken English German and/or French fluency considered a strong asset Competent handling of MS Office (especially Excel and Power Point) Flexibility and a good eye for detail, and good structured writing skills Ability to keep track of your tasks and prioritize under pressure Ability to communicate and work in a team, as well as well-developed verbal and written communication skills Relevant experience abroad in the region is an advantageNotes
