DPSS supports the overarching goals of the Department by setting standards and providing specialized support to UNSMS operations in the areas of physical security, training, coordination of close protection services, critical incident stress management, and the promotion of road safety. It also takes the lead in the departmentโ€™s innovations and digital transformation. and information management. The Division is critical in leveraging resources and expertise to enable the UNโ€™s work around the world in support of the Departmentโ€™s goals and objectives. The duration of the internship is for a period of up to six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days (35 hours) per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. This internship is designed to be in person and full-time (35 hours or more). It may be adjusted to part-time (less than 34 hours) upon request of the successful candidate. The internship can be adapted to accommodate hybrid arrangements (20 hours per week), on an exceptional basis. The intern will assist the Information Management Unit (IMU) in advancing UNDSS Digital Transformation initiatives, including UNSMIN 2.0, the Personnel Lists application, the new Data Platform (Fabric, Dataverse, Power BI), and the modernization of SSIRS. Within delegated authority, the intern will: โ€ข Collaborate with IMU colleagues to gather technical and programmatic requirements for digital solutions. โ€ข Assist in the development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards, Power Apps applications, and Power Automate flows. โ€ข Support troubleshooting, testing, and refinement of applications and dashboards based on user feedback. โ€ข Contribute to data entry and curation in Dataverse, SharePoint, and SQL Server, ensuring accuracy and consistency. โ€ข Draft user documentation, training materials, and assist in capacity-building sessions to strengthen data literacy. โ€ข Participate in cross-departmental collaboration to enhance interoperability and data governance. โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following conditions: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law. โ€ข Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN. โ€ข Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public. (a) Enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree programme in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, AI, or related field. Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with MS Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse is an asset. Knowledge of data modeling, visualization, or data governance principles is desirable. Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
