Work LocationVienna, Austria (In-person or remotely) Expected durationSix Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is the guardian of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the protocols thereto, which include the Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Protocols. UNODC is mandated to promote global adherence to the Protocols and to assist Member States in their efforts to effectively implement them. UNODC provides technical cooperation in assessing and strengthening national responses on prevention, investigation and prosecution of the crimes, developing international cooperation, and respecting the rights of migrants and victims. This internship position is located in the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section (HTMSS) of the Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB) of the Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna (Austria). The UNODC Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Section (HTMSS) works to advance the international agenda on countering trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants in all UN related inter-agency and inter-governmental processes and fora, and supports, among others, the activities relating to the provision of legislative assistance to UN Member States upon request. It further works to develop and disseminate knowledge on trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants through the publication of thematic and technical tools. The internship is envisaged for a period of 6 months duration with a desirable starting time in July 2025. Internships are UNPAID and full-time (40 hours, 5 days per week). The selected interns will work under the supervision of a professional staff of the Section. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Tracking, researching and analyzing information on assigned topics, gathering information from diverse sources and helping assess news value and other potential impact; - Drafting web stories and social media posts; - Creating and updating a monthly newsletter; - Assisting with the implementation of the Sectionโs communication campaigns; - Maintaining and updating the Sectionโs website; - Developing graphics for social media and the website; - Prepare monthly reports for website and social media analytics; - Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโs level or equivalent).
