Work Locationin-person in Vienna Expected duration2-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours). The intern will be operating as part of the Chinese Translation Section (CTS) of CMS at UNOV, under the general guidance of the Chief of Section. The intern will learn about and familiarize themselves with the subject matters dealt with by CTS in its daily translation work with the guidance of its experienced translators and revisers; learn and develop skills and general techniques, including desktop publishing skills, through participation and practice in document translation/desktop publishing. The Intern will carry out the following activities: โ€ข Practice and upgrade general capabilities and specific skills in the use of various translation apps terminology database, especially eLuna with all its important features and functionalities. โ€ข Learn and perform tasks related to the work of the Chinese Desktop Publishing Team (CDPT) under the supervision of the Supervisor of the Team, as instructed by the Chief of Section. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: โ€ข Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent). For this particular internship position, studying for a Master's degree in Translation in a Chinese language university or translation school will be an advantage (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION). โ€ข Be computer literate in standard software applications; โ€ข Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and โ€ข Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
