Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Human Resources Services Division (HRSD) provides dedicated services in support of human resources requirements of client entities, from process development through service delivery. This internship is located in the Human Resources Advisory Section II, in the Operational Support and Advisory Service (OSAS) in the Human Resources Services Division (HRSD), Office of Support Operations (OSO), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Intern reports to the Chief of the Section. We are currently undertaking a project to design and implement a standard global exit survey. The Internship is for a minimum of two months with a preferred start date from 1 July 2024 to 30 September and is renewable for up to 4 additional (maximum of total six) months. The internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but may be adjusted based on the availability of the successful candidate. The Intern works five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member. OSAS currently offers flexible working arrangements with 2 days of telecommuting per week. Interns may avail of flexible working arrangements in the same manner as other personnel. Requests to conduct the internship part-time may be accommodated. The intern works as a full member of our team, pursuing project assignments that are designed to make a significant impact on our work, and has opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The internship will focus on the following areas that will contribute to our current main projects: a. Global Exit Survey b. Communications efforts such as drafting news articles c. Support designing standardized reports d. Initiating and carrying out other assigned tasks/special projects Reporting to: Service Chief (OSAS) Specific project or work area the intern will contribute to: Designing a Global Exit Survey Specific tasks the intern will fulfill: The intern works as a full member of our team, pursues project assignments that are designed to make a significant impact on our work, and has opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The internship will focus on the following areas that will contribute to our current main project: 1) Research and test survey solutions for a standard global exit survey 2) Research and contribute to a question catalogue for a standard global exit survey 3) Assist in organizing focus groups with stakeholders 4) Attending and summarizing focus groups and meetings. 5) Assist in designing the final survey 6) Supporting communication efforts including the drafting of news articles 7) Contribute to designing a dashboard to visualize survey results 8) Support designing standardized reports 9) Initiating and carrying out other assigned tasks/special projects. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโs degree or equivalent). (c) Be computer literate in standard software applications, especially MS Excel; (d) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and (e) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. We are open to a broad range of educational backgrounds. We seek candidates with: (a) relevant coursework in business administration, management, strategic communications and (b) design, project management, public administration, law and legal administration (criminal justice), or human resources management. (c) We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in statistics, data visualization and survey design LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
