Mission and objectivesCabo Verde became the first pilot Joint Office (JO) of the Ex-Com agencies (UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA and WFP) on 1 January 2006. This was a major step in the UN reform towards the harmonization and simplification of UN activities in small countries. The Joint Office model consists of a single UN office of the participating agencies, led by one representative who equally represents all the participating agencies. The JO has one organizational structure and a single program/common country program encompassing the activities and mandates of all participating agencies, and uses one set of business processes, rules, and regulations under a โ€œsupport agencyโ€. Since 2010, with the discontinuation of WFP Office in Cabo Verde, following the graduation to a Middle-Income Country in 2008 , the Joint Office is now comprised of three agencies - UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF.

ContextThis assignment supports a digital learning initiative in Cabo Verde, that aims to enhance access to quality education through digital platforms. Introduced in Cabo Verde in 2022, the initiative is part of the countryโ€™s Digital Transition Strategy in Education and focuses on improving learning outcomes in basic education through interactive content and active learning methodologies. The iniciative is currently in a two-year pilot phase, targeting schools and students with the greatest learning challenges, particularly in grade 4. It includes components such as digital infrastructure, teacher training, and the development of localized content. As part of this effort, UN Volunteers will help convert existing educational materials for grades 1 to 6 into interactive, inclusive, and gender-sensitive digital formats. These materials will be integrated into a digital learning platform to support early-grade learners.

Task DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator the online Volunteers will contribute to the digital transformation of early-grade educational contents in Cabo Verde. The assignment is designed to be implemented either independently or in tandem with another online volunteer. Tasks include: ยท Content review and analysis - The volunteer will review and analyze existing educational materials in different formats (ppt, word, pdfโ€ฆ) for basic education (grades 1 to 6), identifying opportunities to enhance interactivity, accessibility, and alignment with inclusive and gender-sensitive principles. ยท Content adaptation - Volunteers will transform static content into interactive digital learning modules using tools such as Articulate Storyline, H5P, Genially, or other SCORM-compliant platforms. The content must be engaging and accessible to all learners (inclusive). ยท Collaboration and quality assurance - The volunteer will ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with project standards. The volunteer will participate in regular coordination meetings, share progress updates, and integrate feedback from the project team and technical experts. ยท Testing and validation - The volunteer will test the interactive modules for usability, accessibility, and technical performance, ensuring compatibility across devices and platforms. ยท Promotion of volunteerism and knowledge sharing - Volunteers are encouraged to document and share their experiences through blogs or social media, and to participate in knowledge-sharing activities that promote volunteerism and peer learning.
