5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

Mission and objectivesUNDP is the leading United Nations organization fighting to end the injustice of poverty, inequality, and climate change. Working with our broad network of experts and partners in 170 countries, we help nations to build integrated, lasting solutions for people and planet. As the lead UN development agency, UNDP is well-placed to help implement the Goals through our work in some 170 countries and territories. We support countries in achieving the SDGs through integrated solutions. Todayโ€™s complex challengesโ€”from stemming the spread of disease to preventing conflictโ€”cannot be tackled neatly in isolation. For UNDP, this means focusing on systems, root causes and connections between challengesโ€”not just thematic sectorsโ€”to build solutions that respond to peopleโ€™s daily realities. UNDP has been on the ground in 2017, supporting the Government of Egypt and delivering to people the best solutions particularly the most vulnerable, women and youth. Since 2015, 195-member states of the United Nations, including the Government of Egypt, committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, an ambitious action plan that pictures a better world by 2030, with serious commitment from countries to meet the set targets. In terms of policy and partnership development, UNDP is establishing new partnerships with new partners and both local and global levels. UNDP is also keen to strengthen already developed partnerships with different organizations and initiatives that support UNDP mandate.

ContextUNDP Egypt is preparing the launch of the ERSI initiative, which aims to engage diverse stakeholders through clear, compelling, and knowledge-driven communications aligned with GFCR communication standards and audiences. To strengthen the quality, relevance, and consistency of its launch communications, UNDP Egypt seeks the support of motivated online volunteers to contribute research, content development ideas, and quality assurance inputs. This will allow selected Online Volunteers -Gain hands-on experience contributing to a real UNDP Egypt communications initiative -Develop practical skills in research, content planning, and quality assurance -Enhance understanding of UNDP, GFCR-aligned communications, and development initiatives -Receive a Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion of the assignment

Task DescriptionUNDP Egypt is seeking Online volunteers to work collaboratively under the guidance of the UNDP Egypt communications team to support the development of a well-structured communications approach for the ERSI launch. Their contributions will directly inform real UNDP knowledge products and outreach activities. Specifically, online volunteers will: -Conduct desk research to identify relevant best practices, benchmarks, and examples of communications strategies, launch campaigns, and knowledge products from comparable initiatives, including those aligned with GFCR channels and audiences. -Propose clear content themes, storylines, and messaging angles that align with ERSI objectives and reflect the expected tone and style of GFCR communications. -Support the drafting of a launch-period content plan, suggesting appropriate content types (e.g. articles, visuals, social media posts) and a logical sequencing over the first weeks of launch. -Provide quality assurance support by reviewing draft communication materials and suggesting edits to improve clarity, coherence, tone, and consistency. By the end of the assignment, online volunteers are expected to produce: -A concise benchmarking brief summarizing key findings, practical examples, and actionable recommendations applicable to the ERSI initiative. -A content Plan compiling proposed themes, story ideas, messaging angles, visuals, and draft text developed during the assignment.
