Org. Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Business Processes and Systems Support Section (BPSSS), Capacity Development and Operational Training Service (CDOTS), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operational entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions and regional commissions. The Capacity Development Operational Training Service (CDOTS) supports the development, design, coordination and delivery of integrated operational support training and capacity development initiatives and programmes, including training in Umoja and Inspira; it also offers language and communication skills training in the six official languages. BPSSS is responsible for working with clients and stakeholders to develop the processes and structures by which policies will be implemented across the Secretariat and to ensure that these are reflected in enterprise systems. It also provides training on Umoja, Inspira and other business applications related to resources management. The incumbent reports to the Chief of BPSSS/CDOTS/DOS. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: โ€ข Participates in the development, programming, testing, debugging and implementation of new application systems releases, modules and functionalities in support of CDOTS training programmes. โ€ข Develops, tests and implements simple computer application systems and programs using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools, utilized by CDOTS. โ€ข Serves as a team member in the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and support of CDOTS projects; independently liaises with users to define and specify training requirements. โ€ข Assists in design and launch of the Training Needs Assessment surveys. โ€ข Participates in business improvement projects for CDOTS clients. โ€ข Installs computer application systems software and hardware according to specifications; monitors computer applications systems using appropriate monitoring tools and produces monitoring reports. โ€ข Prepares technical and user documentation for deployed computer application systems, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations. โ€ข Maintains e-Learning and knowledge management platforms of CDOTS. โ€ข Provides support for deployed training systems including version management, data recovery and deployment to users' offices; performs ongoing reviews with users and developers and responds to users' requests. โ€ข Drafts correspondence and communications, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as prepares unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports. โ€ข Serves as focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of training application systems development projects, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units to initiate requests; prepares standard terms of reference; processes and follows-up on administrative actions and resolves issues related to project implementation, e.g., organization of and participation in training, procurement of equipment and services, etc. โ€ข Keeps abreast of developments in the field; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions. โ€ข Provides guidance to new/junior staff. โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned. Work ExperienceA minimum of seven years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area is required. Experience in supporting Learning Management Software is required. Experience in designing Training Needs Assessment surveys is desirable. Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps and Power BI is desirable. Experience in developing and maintaining Drupal-based websites is desirable.
