INCATA Field Manager โ Job Description
Project Background
The INCATA (Inclusive Agricultural Transformation in Africa and Asia) project studies the relationship between farmers and small-scale enterprises such as input dealers, wholesalers, and retailers in the vegetable value chain in Odisha. The project spans six districts in the state โ Anugul, Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Koraput, and Keonjhar.
In the first phase of the project, we will conduct surveys in around 200 vegetable markets across our study districts along with detailed surveys of a total of 1450 traders and input dealers. We have already hired a survey firm to conduct the survey.
Role of Field Manager
The expected role of the Field Manager in the project will be as follows:
ยท Thoroughly understand the various surveys and actively coordinate in any field activities (such as pre-testing) undertaken including logistics support.
ยท Help in leading the training of surveyors along with the survey firm.
ยท Keep in close contact with key people in the survey firm and always stay updated about the surveys. Communicate developments in the field timely and effectively to IFPRI staff.
ยท Monitor closely the work done by the survey firm in the field to ensure data quality. Regularly travel to study districts to check the work of the surveyors and conduct re-training and debrief calls whenever necessary.
ยท Manage relationships with respondents and stakeholders to ensure smooth functioning of fieldwork.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for a qualified professional with 10-15 years of experience in leading teams and managing projects. A willingness to travel extensively in the study districts is required. Other skills that are important for the project are:
Soft Skills: Leadership, Team Management, Attention to detail (especially for data quality monitoring), Collaboration, Effective communication, Conflict resolution, Adaptability, Time management, Problem solving, Transparency
Technical Skills: Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Emails.
Experience: Prior experience of implementing large household or enterprise surveys is required.
Remuneration
Commensurate to experience and will include travel and accommodation allowance.
Duration of Work
This is an initial 8-day trial, with a possibility of contract extension based on satisfactory performance during the trial and project funding availability and requirements.
