Mission and objectivesThe Global Disability Summit (GDS) is a unique global mechanism that improves the lives of persons with disabilities, especially from the global South. It was created in 2017 to convene global, regional, and national stakeholders that share the same goal and vision for disability inclusive development and humanitarian action. The Summits aim to close the gap between two often disconnected areas: disability inclusion and development cooperation. GDS is more than just a two-day event held every three yearsโit is a mechanism involving continuous advocacy with global disability development stakeholders and the mobilization of the disability rights movement and its allies. At its core, GDS is a partnership between member states and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), exemplified by the collaborative approach to co-hosting arrangements.
ContextWe want to make the GDS as accessible as possible and support all participants in the best possible way. This also applies to the ones following the summit online. Many of our participants are people with disabilities from around the globe. They require different language and assistance options to follow the programme. The livestream of the plenary programme will be available in English, German and Arabic including live captions, sign language, audio description and easy language. Online participants can choose which language and assistance they require for their full and best participation. There will be different livestream players available to choose from. Interaction for the online audience will not be possible. The online participants can only view and listen to the stage programme. If they face any difficulties with finding the right livestream or have questions regarding the GDS programme, we want them to have a hotline and friendly, helpful volunteer available that supports them. To be fit for this task, there will be a video briefing call in March, so that you are equipped with all you need to be of best assistance to our online participants with and without disabilities.
Task DescriptionWe need the support of online volunteers to support with assisting our online audience that follows the GDS plenary programme via livestreams online. YOU CAN DO THIS ASSIGNMENT FROM HOME. No need to be in Berlin, Germany. We are planning to have a telephone hotline and maybe chat available catering to different languages. You can apply for this task if you speak English, German and/or Arabic. One of the mentioned languages is enough, more and other languages are very welcome. The GDS takes place on 2 - 3 April 2025 in Berlin and online. Times are not finalized yet, but please consider full days, roughly 9:00am - 6:00pm CET. It is possible to only be available for half days. This can be individually arranged. There will be a detailed video briefing call End of March 2025. In this briefing, you get to know the platform where the livestreams are embedded and receive all information on the GDS you might need to answer questions of the online participants.
