Position Overview
The Hospital Porter Help, accompany and transports patients from one place to another within the health facility, according to the instruction from the clinical team and following hygiene standards, in order to ensure their safety. The role requires attention to detail, time management, and excellent Hospital services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transporting patients (e.g. From Registration, Triage, Operating theatre, x-ray room, Laboratory, etc.), assisting and helping them at all times by ensuring they are comfortable and treated with dignity.
- Assist nursing staff with patient needs (i.e. lifting patients, lying them down)
- Inform Clinical staff about any possible serious problem or complication during lifting (i.e. patients, equipment, etc).
- Ensure safe transportation of patients, taking into consideration the state/conditions of the patient and the instructions given by the nursing team or doctors.
- Follow at all times the universal hygiene standards and the instructions of health professionals.
- Ensure the disinfection of his/her material (stretch, wheel chairs etc.).
- Ensure the safety and security of materials/equipment entrusted to him/her.
- Perform other operational tasks as requested by the Line Manager.
Education and Work Experience Requirements:
Education
- WASSCE/or certification in Community Health workers, waste management, environmental hygiene, or Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Experience as a community healthcare worker and other related experiences.
Languages
- Professional proficiency in Krio is required. Proficiency in English is an added advantage.
SKILLS
- Physical Fitness: The role requires physical stamina and the ability to lift and move heavy items safely.
- Communication Skills: Porters must be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff, often providing reassurance to patients during transport.
- Teamwork: They need to work well as part of a team, coordinating with various departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Customer Service: A friendly and helpful demeanor is essential, as porters often interact with patients and their families.
