Mission and objectivesThe fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does โ€” in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to childrenโ€™s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favouritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life โ€” in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions โ€” her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education, hygiene/sanitation and protection of a societyโ€™s most disadvantaged citizens โ€” addressing inequity โ€” not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfil their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.

ContextThe GAIA toolkit is a key resource supporting child protection efforts in Mozambique for the work with and for adolescents, particularly in emergency settings such as Cabo Delgado. The toolkit was initially designed as a comprehensive manual; however, field evaluations have shown that it is too long and complex for practical use by facilitators and participants. To enhance its usability and impact, we are working on developing a hands-on toolkit that is more practical for facilitators and simplified materials for participants. The redesigned materials should be visually appealing, easy to navigate, and aligned with the communication needs of local facilitators. The final products will be used in training sessions, workshops, and field interventions, ensuring effective engagement with communities and frontline workers.

Task DescriptionWe are looking for one (1) Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the Child Protection team and in close collaboration with the communications team, will provide graphic design support for the revised GAIA toolkit materials. Specifically, the Online Volunteer is expected to: โ€ข Collect information on document/material background such as target audience, design style, branding guidelines, and accessibility needs. โ€ข Propose a visual concept for the hands-on toolkit and participant materials based on existing content. โ€ข Design and layout key materials including: o A condensed, facilitator-friendly GAIA toolkit o Participant handouts and visual guides o Infographics, icons, and illustrations to simplify complex concepts โ€ข Develop final designs in accordance with UNICEFโ€™s corporate branding guidelines, which will be shared in advance. โ€ข Provide editable design files for further adaptation if needed. Expected Deliverables โ€ข A set of finalized and formatted materials for facilitators and participants. โ€ข Editable design files to ensure adaptability in future use. โ€ข A short guidance note on how to use the designed materials effectively in training sessions The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to collaborate with UNICEFโ€™s Child Protection team in Mozambique and contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of child protection interventions through well-designed, accessible materials.
