About the job
The overall responsibility of the Food Security โ Regenerative Agriculture (FS/RA) Advisor is to lead the Food Security technical area, within the broader Economic Recovery sector portfolio covering the three sub-sectors of Food Security, Financial Inclusion and Decent Livelihoods. DRC considers climate adaptation as an integral component of Food Security in displacement contexts; and thus expects the FS/RA Advisor to also lead our regenerative agricultural design (RAD) agenda, when and where relevant.
The FS/RA Advisor will work in close collaboration with DRCs Global Climate and Environment team and the Global Economic Recovery sector beside country heads of program and technical staff.
The responsibilities of the FS/RA Advisor will focus on 1) Strategy and Advocacy; 2) Technical guidance and support to COs, 3) Capacity Strengthening and learnings. In particular, s/he will:
Strategy and Advocacy
Lead the strengthening of DRCโs approach to Food Security and Food Systems Resilience in Displacement; Lead the development of a global Regenerative Agricultural Design (RAD) strategy within DRCs approach to Food Security and Resilience; Support the development of communications and advocacy material on Food Security and specific regenerative / Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) practices for internal and external audiences; Build global partnerships and represent DRC in relevant fora.Technical guidance and support
Provide technical support for country staff on Emergency and Solutions food security interventions across the project cycle; For Regenerative Agriculture specifically: establish and ensure long-term management of demonstrations sites in selected COs utilizing regenerative agriculture practices, intensive homestead improvement, holistic rangeland management, agroforestry and water resource management. Develop technical guidance documents and tools on specific technologies and approaches for DRC and partners.Capacity strengthening and learning
Link, share and learn from other organizations climate-sensitive / adaptive food security approaches with a focus on regenerative agriculture and land restoration; Ensure institutional knowledge management, including through the development and maintenance of a user-friendly resource hub and the establishment of a community of practice Contribute to DRCโs learning and evidence-building on food security outcomes in displacement, including through generating learning on regenerative agricultural design Lead trainings and webinars on the above-mentioned topics.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect the candidate to have a minimum of 10 yearsโ experience in progressively more senior roles within the Food Security sector (in both Emergency and Solutions settings), including at least 5 years engaging in regenerative agriculture and land restoration. The FS/RA Advisor will be expected to provide hands-on technical support through Regenerative Agriculture cascading, inclusive of designing, implementing, and managing interventions at community levels in fragile, conflict affected contexts. Hence, s/he should expect to travel at least 50% of their time, with periods (e.g. when we expand regenerative agricultural design to a new context) of extended field presence.

Required
Up-to-date strong technical knowledge in Food Security and Food Systems Strengthening โ experience in displacement contexts / with displacement-affected populations will be a strong advantage. Up-to-date strong technical knowledge in one or more specific areas, such as permaculture, regenerative design, agroecology, landscape restoration planning. Familiarity with the Resilience Design methodology is an added advantage. Experience working in different country contexts, e.g. beyond project-specific role(s) in one country, and from different ecological landscapes. Experience delivering technical trainings in permaculture at household, farm, and landscape levels. Strong ability to establish collaborative working relationships across dispersed geographical locations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and facilitation of proposals, learning materials etc. Familiarity with GIS and key mapping databases and resources will be a strong advantage. Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a small team, and to form close working relationships with a diverse range of multi-cultural colleagues. Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) Able and willing to travel a minimum of 50% of the time. Anticipate a lot of travelling to demonstration sites to build upon capacity trainings, monitoring of results on the ground etc. Demonstrated experience in implementing complex, integrated programming in humanitarian contexts.
Desirable
Experience using Climate vulnerability assessments for program design and implementation. Experience with participatory project design with communities for climate adaptation.
We offer
Contract length: 2 years with possibility of extension, subject to confirmed funding.
Workplace: The position is located in one of DRCโs country office. Therefore, if you are interested in and qualified for this position, please indicate your preferred DRC duty station in your cover letter. Due to visa restrictions, DRCโs office in Nairobi is not an option for this position unless the candidate is already a Kenyan resident.
