5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances childrenโ€™s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And itโ€™s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support childrenโ€™s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for โ€“ and respond to โ€“ crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 80 countries.

The Opportunity

This role will ensure that the Womenโ€™s Voice and Leadership project (WVL) is implemented with the feminist principles at the forefront of every interventions. This is accomplished through providing direct support and oversight to the implementation and monitoring of the projectโ€™s Gender Equality Strategy, in line with Planโ€™s new global transformative agenda and Country CSP Gender Equality agenda, and Global Affairs Canadaโ€™s new Feminist International Assistance Policy.

Funded through the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) WVL strives to bring a notable result in advancing gender equality and empowerment in Ethiopia. WVL recognizes the power and potential of women and girls to promote, protect and uphold their human rights. Over the past four years and half years, the project partnered with more than 90 women organizations (women led and girls and women focused) civil society organizations (CSOs). WVL works to strengthen the leadership and management skills to cultivate a cadre of WOs that can effectively build their organizations capacity to effectively deliver their mission, build the next generation of female leaders and mobilize resource for sustainable impact. The project creates access to flexible funding mechanism to enable the WOs improve the reach and impact of their programing and advocacy. It also aims to create a possibility for coordinated advocacy work carried out as a coalition and connected voice, rather than fragmented efforts. The end goal is for the womenโ€™s movement in Ethiopia to be recognized as effective and vibrant, influencing national dialogue on womenโ€™s empowerment and gender equality.
