The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking to engage the services of an Individual Consultant to support the delivery of high-quality oral healthcare services and to strengthen outpatient dental care provision. As part of its commitment to ensuring accessible, safe, and patient\u2011centered clinical services, the Institute recognizes the importance of maintaining adequate specialist capacity to effectively address both routine dental needs and emergency oral health conditions.

The purpose of this assignment is to support IITA\u2019s efforts to improve oral health outcomes through timely clinical interventions, effective emergency management, and the provision of preventive dental education and counselling. This engagement is critical to sustaining IITA\u2019s high standards of dental care delivery while ensuring operational flexibility and continuity of essential clinical services.

In line with this, we invite suitably qualified and experienced individuals to express their interest in providing the required services.

 

Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities

The consultant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Provide outpatient dental specialist care on a locum basis in accordance with established clinical standards and protocols.Perform primary care dental procedures, including preventive, restorative, and conservative treatments, as required during scheduled locum engagements.Conduct comprehensive oral examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning tailored to individual patient needs.Manage dental emergencies effectively, ensuring timely intervention and appropriate follow\u2011up care.Deliver patient education and counseling on oral health, preventive care, and treatment plans to promote long\u2011term oral health outcomes.Maintain strict adherence to dental infection prevention and control protocols, ensuring compliance with clinical safety and hygiene standards. 

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

\u00b7       Bachelor\u2019s degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) or Dentistry from a recognized institution.

\u00b7       Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in Dentistry/Dental Surgery, with demonstrated exposure to both public and private healthcare settings.

\u00b7       Proven competence in delivering primary and specialist outpatient dental care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and restorative procedures.

\u00b7       Strong understanding and practical application of dental infection prevention, control protocols, and clinical safety standards.

\u00b7       Experience in patient education, oral health promotion, and preventive dental counseling.

\u00b7       Prior experience working in institutional, occupational health, or multidisciplinary healthcare environments will be an added advantage.

 

Duration and Location of the Assignment

The consultancy is expected to last for a period of Twelve (12) months. The assignment will be based at the Institute\u2019s Headquarters in Ibadan, with services provided on a locum basis in accordance with institutional requirements.
