Background
UNICEF is currently implementing theย revamp of the Emergency Preparedness Platform (EPP3.0), a corporate digital solution designed to support preparedness analysis, planning, and decision-making across countries and regions. The platform integrates data from multiple UNICEF corporate systems and tools and applies enhanced calculation logic.ย The EPP3.0 version aims to enable more efficient andย accurateย preparedness planning and monitoring, enhance flexibility and accessibility for users, and strengthen the ability to quickly analyze andย utilizeย data for decision-making.ย Ultimately, thisย supports countries in strengthening preparedness and enables UNICEF to respond more effectively when emergencies occur.ย
To ensure the successful deployment and reliability of EPP3.0, UNICEF requires dedicated support to conductย end-to-end testingย of the platform, toย validateย complete functionality across all modules, ensure data integrity, and verify the accuracy of calculations derived from system integrations, in alignment with UNICEFโs operational and reporting standards.ย
The purpose of thisย internshipย is to support the validation of the platformโs full functionality, data integrity, system integrations, and calculation accuracy across all EPP 3.0 modules. Interns will play a critical role in supporting the Emergency Preparedness Platform (EPP 3.0) testing process, by conducting comprehensive functional and data validation checks. This role ensures that all platform features work as intended, workflows are seamless, and integrated data isย accurateย and consistent.ย

Main Duties / Responsibilities
As part of the EPP 3.0 project team, theย internsย will support platform testing through a participatory, agile approach, including sprint planning, weekly demonstrations, and continuous feedback cycles. The scope of work will include the following activities:ย
Functional Testingย Perform systematic functional testing by interacting with all buttons, links, and interactive elements across EPP 3.0 modules to ensure proper functionality.ย Execute end-to-end test plans covering the full preparedness cycle, including:ย ย Risk analysisย Response phaseย Preparednessย phaseย Report any non-functional buttons, broken links, or unexpected behaviors.ย Data Validationย Verify that data pulled from integrated systems is displayed accurately and consistently, including:ย ย Financeย and Budgetย Human Resourcesย ย GISย and geospatial analysisย Response and preparedness activitiesย Supplies listย Partnershipย dataย Validate the accuracy of data exchanges between EPP 3.0 and these systems.ย Validate the accuracy of automated calculated data, including people in need, people to be reached, programmeย targetsย and preparedness score.ย Defect Trackingย Identify, document, and track:ย ย Functional defectsย Data inconsistenciesย Workflow gapsย Use agreed testing and issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, or Excel logs).ย Workflow Testingย Simulate real user journeys across different preparedness scenarios.ย Ensure that transitions between modules are smooth and intuitive.ยExpected Deliverables

Essential Requirements/Educational Background
Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme or have graduated within the past two years, in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, orย a relatedย field.ย 6 months -ย 1ย year of experience in software testing, quality assurance, or data validation (internship or academic project experience acceptable).ย Familiarity with integrated systems and data workflows is a plus.ย Basic understanding of software testing principles and methodologies.ย Proficiencyย in Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data validation.ย Exposure to issue-tracking toolsย such as Azure DevOpsย is desirable.ย Ability to interpret data from multiple sources andย identifyย inconsistencies.ย Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.ย Clear and concise communication skills for reporting issues.ย Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.ยThe candidate must show commitment to the UNICEF core values of care, respect, integrity, trust, accountability and sustainability. Languages
Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
Proficiency in any other UN languages is considered an asset (French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese).
Conditions:
Age: Interns must be at least 18 yearsย Have good academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records. Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office. Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.ย Individuals must have proof of medical insurance covering the time and location of their internship.ย This internship can be delivered on a full-time or part-time commitment.ย Individuals are expected to provide their own laptop.ย Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend (unless already in receipt of any support for the internship from a third party).ย Individuals must fund their own travel and living expenses.ย Individuals are responsible for arranging any visa or immigration requirements.Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.
