5 Steps to get a job in the United Nations

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances childrenโ€™s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support childrenโ€™s rights from birth until they reach adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries.

We wonโ€™t stop until we are all equal.

The Opportunity

The position holder will be responsible for strengthening the organizationโ€™s capacity to anticipate, monitor, and respond to humanitarian emergencies through the development and coordination of effective early warning systems, risk analysis, and robust information management processes. This includes creating and managing a comprehensive information management system for all humanitarian and resilience programmes, guided by a clear Information Management Strategy, to ensure the provision of accurate and timely data for informed decision-making.

The role involves liaising with key stakeholders, promoting effective information and records management practices, and coordinating information needs across teams. The incumbent will also be tasked with producing infographic analyses of the humanitarian landscape, offering evidence-based recommendations to emergency teams and senior management in alignment with the organizationโ€™s Disaster Preparedness and Response strategies.

Furthermore, the role includes the design, analysis, and preparation of emergency status reports detailing response and recovery efforts, identified needs, and preliminary damage assessments. The specialist will support the evaluation, development, implementation, maintenance, and review of departmental electronic document and records management systems, ensuring these systems are functional, efficient, and responsive to the dynamic needs of humanitarian programming.
