The purpose of the Durable Solutions (DS) Project Assistant position is to implement delegated Self-reliance project interventions in Dadaab Sub-County, Garissa County and the surrounding host community. The Project Assistant will provide support onย technical project competencies related to programme development and implementation.ย ย This includes the overall responsibility for the implementation of programming in the following key areas: (1) programming related to improving refugees and vulnerable host communities access to timely legal protection support and durable solutions interventions to be carried out at the area office level; (2) supporting NRCโs integrated self-reliance approach through provision of information, counselling and legal assistance related to employment laws and procedures services; (3) conducting assessments, research and local advocacy to unlock systemic and administrative barriers affecting refugees.ย The Project Assistant will be responsible for developing strong working relationships to ensure integration with other NRC core competencies and with a wide range of external stakeholders to ensure strategic and contextual alignment of the projects. ย

Specific responsibilitiesย
Implementation of projects focussed on self-reliance, legal protection and durable solutions targeting both refugees and host communities.
Day-to-day project implementation at field level in developing clear work plans and targets and following up on implementation and engage in regular performance monitoring of projects.
Contribute to the development of either monthly, quarterly, annual or status reports including monthly monitoring and evaluation updates
Quality programming, identifying key areas for further follow up, devising strategies and supporting implementation to improve and monitor quality in NRCโs approaches.
Meaningfully engaging project participants to ensure their views inform the design and implementation of NRCโs responses.
Conduct project specific technical assessments and research, present recommendations and adapt programme implementation to needs and context.
Actively participate in relevant coordination forums including camp level protection, child protection, sexual and gender-based violence, shelter and livelihood working groups and county coordination forums.
In consultation with the ICLA Specialist, deliver technical training to stakeholders.
Implement approaches that promote safe and inclusive programming (SIP) and protection mainstreaming. ย
Participate in the area level coordination meetings including the monthly programme meetings.
Promote project visibility through preparing and document success stories, human interest stories, or photosย

University degree in law, political science, social science or other relevant discipline. Diploma with relevant experience will be considered.ย
Relevant experience in humanitarian settings, especially protracted crisis
Good understanding of refugee situation in Kenya
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience within field of expertise2 years of experience managing legal protection/durable solutions projects in complex and volatile contextsFamiliarity with international refugee law and human rights law.ย Knowledge of SPHERE standards and other global humanitarian and protection standardsPrevious experience from workingย Documented technical competences related to the positionโs responsibilitiesExperience in proposal and report writing and excellent computer skills
