Migration in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has recently evolved in scale, pattern, and complexity, with an upsurge of vulnerable populations driven by interlinked factors, including economic disparity, political unrest, and environmental changes. Reports from IOM and related organizations highlight significant risks faced by migrants, including gender-based violence, exploitation, and inadequate access to services, especially among women, children, and marginalized groups. However, migration data collection remains fragmented and inconsistent, limiting effective policy response and cross-regional comparison. Efforts like the EU Data Action aim to create a cohesive sub-continental data system, harmonizing collection, analysis, and dissemination across SSA. This initiative focuses on building technical capacities, standardizing data processes, and fostering collaboration among African states and regional bodies to enhance policy formulation and enable evidence-based migration management.

- Participating in Participatory Mapping Exercise (PME).
- Identify the right sources of information/target respondents to collect the relevant information required from Flow Monitoring registry and/or Flow Monitoring Survey.
- Complying with assessment deadlines as per IOM DTM guidelines.
- Conduct interviews and data collection in the designated data collection points/area according to the operation implementation plan.
- Conduct data entry of the collected information into the given data entry template or through the assigned mobile application in the case of mobile data collection being used to assure the accuracy of the data encoded. In this case, collect and record data using the Flow Monitoring tools in the kobo platforms.
- Examine and process data, to ensure quality and accuracy, into simple forms in accordance with instructions and guidelines received during the training.ย
- Timely synchronization of data within the agreed time of its collection date.ย
- Liaise and build a good relationship with different data sources in the data collection points/areas, including but not limited to various humanitarian partners, community members, travelers, INGOs and governmental partners.
- Report on a weekly basis on the activities conducted and the issues encountered with the DTM Supervisor and make a relevant recommendation on flows solution.ย
- Respect and follow IOMโs Data Protection Principles.
- Ensure gender mainstreaming throughout activities, addressing protection, social, environmental andย โother relevant cross-cutting concerns
- Minimum of a Diploma in Statistics, Social Science, Community Development, ICT, Disaster Risk Management and any other relevant qualifications.
- Experience in DTM flow monitoring is a must.
- Experience in collecting data on forced migration such as displacement.
- Familiarity with electronic Data collection tools like KOBO Collect.
- Experience working in surveys with UN Agencies, international organization and Government.
- Capable and willing to work in remote areas with minimum supervision.
