Introduction

Since 2013, the ILO has partnered closely with the Government of Bangladesh and social partners to support a series of major legal and administrative reforms aimed at strengthening labour rights and improving workplace safety, including amendments to the Bangladesh Labour Act. While these reforms mark significant progress, their effectiveness ultimately depends on the establishment of strong institutional mechanisms to ensure consistent and sustainable implementation. To maintain reform momentum and support Bangladeshโ€™s smooth graduation from LDC status, the ILO Country Office in Dhaka has reviewed its operational approach to better align assistance across the country, and across sectors. In line with national development frameworks and the Decent Work Country Programme, the ILO Country Office has established the Labour Administration and Working Conditions (LAWC) cluster to enhance synergies, reduce overlaps, and strengthen efficiency, collaboration, accountability, and leadership in advancing decent work and labour governance in the country.
