The mandate of UNEP is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The corporate website is the primary digital presence of UNEP, serving as a central hub for environmental information, policy updates and global initiatives. It provides an interactive platform for stakeholders, policymakers and the public to engage with UNEPโs work and access vital environmental science. A digital overhaul is currently underway, comprising three projects to develop a UNEP style guide and develop Drupal templates, revamp the corporate website and rebuild the Knowledge Repository in DSpace, in addition to improving platform integration. UNEP is recruiting a DevOps Engineer/Cloud Architect to manage and optimize its cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security and performance of its web platforms. This role is critical in enhancing UNEPโs digital capabilities, supporting machine learning initiatives and driving sustainability in web operations. The consultant will also support the digital overhaul currently underway, including ensuring consistency with broader organizational standards and the UN Style Guide, while introducing unique components tailored to provide the individuality required for UNEP subsites and campaigns. The consultant shall report to the Head of Web Platforms and will carry out the following duties: - AWS infrastructure management - Deploy and maintain an engineering self-service tool - Develop a sustainability framework to achieve carbon-neutral web infrastructure for UNEP operations - Formalize RTO and RPO benchmarks to be shared with management - Integrate static code analysis workflows on all repositories to respond proactively to security threats - Support Drupal CMS operations - Manage and optimize CDN, security and DNS configurations to enhance application performance and resilience. - Establish and maintain seamless integration between GitHub and GitLab, ensuring efficient synchronization of repositories, workflows and version control strategies. - Upgrade continuous delivery workflows in ArgoCD to report deployment status on GitLab and GitHub repositories - Vectorize existing content on OpenSearch to prepare for LLM integration - Introduce an MLOps pipeline on GitLab and Amazon EKS to enhance machine learning integration in existing products - Define and document specifications for integrating AI agents into existing infrastructure - Provide security reporting, in accordance with OICT guidelines Qualifications/special skillsBachelorโs degree in computer science or related field is required At least four (4) years of professional experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is required. AWS solution architect certification is required A minimum of three years of experience managing Kubernetes clusters in production environments is required. At least four (4) years of experience working with Docker containers and container orchestration is required. Proven experience in mid-to-senior level roles as a PHP Developer or Drupal Developer is required. Experience with modern JavaScript libraries, preferably React, is required Hands-on experience working with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) is required. Good understanding of and working experience with ElasticSearch/OpenSearch required.
