ContextUNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. The three transformative results for UNFPA are ending preventable maternal deaths, ending unmet need for family planning and ending gender-based violence and all harmful practices including child marriage. UNFPAโ€™s India Country Programme 9 focuses on empowering young people with critical life skills and invests in adolescent health and well-being; ensuring universal access to high quality sexual and reproductive health and rights; addressing gender discrimination and harmful practices such as gender-biased sex selection and child marriage, and using population data to maximize the demographic dividend. The Population Dynamics (PD) unit focuses on generating evidences through research and data analysis and build capacities to use data and analysis, including on population dynamics, the demographic dividend, sexual and reproductive health and gender equality to inform the development and monitoring of policies, plans and programmes at the national and subnational levels. More specifically the role of PD unit is strengthen policy research and demographic intelligence for the integration of population dynamics and megatrends into sustainable development planning efforts (including to make policies and programmes responsive to the needs of the urban poor and older persons at the national and State levels) and convening policy dialogues on demographic dividend, urbanization and migration and ; and advocating for appropriate policies at both the national and State levels.

Task DescriptionUnder the overall guidance of the Chief, Policy and Partnership and the direct supervision of the Population Dynamics and Research Specialist, the Data Analyst will perform the following tasks: โ€ข Support in data analysis in generating evidence for policy advocacy and programming. โ€ข Support in strategic research initiatives by collecting, compiling and analysis of data from various sources and support dissemination of such research for advocacy and policy level discussion. โ€ข Assist in knowledge management about current and emerging issues and trends in the area of population dynamics, sexual and reproductive health, adolescents and youth and gender equality. โ€ข Share and support other programme units with data and analysis for their advocacy and programming โ€ข Provide hands-on support to programme managers, State offices and other staff in terms of effective gathering of data and conducting analysis for effective programming. โ€ข Conduct desk review to document best practices and policies adopted by other countries related to research and policies. โ€ข Facilitate use of data from large scale surveys and from research studies for decision-making and program improvements within the project and other stakeholders. โ€ข Support in preparing research briefs on the basis of systematic analysis of processes and outputs derived from the UNFPA supported interventions. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: โ€ข Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); โ€ข Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; โ€ข Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. โ€ข Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; โ€ข Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; โ€ข Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/expected outputs: As an active team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNFPA Population Dynamics unit in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: โ€ข Support building a solid evidence base for UNFPA engagement in national policy dialogue and advocacy on its mandate areas โ€ข Support preparation of briefs and dissemination for policy advocacy โ€ข Work closely with the country and state offices teams and national counterparts to ensure PD aspects are well internalized and applied

Living conditions and remarksNew Delhi is the national capital of India and is situated in the central part of India. The city is home to thousands of businesses and international companies and embassies, making it very cosmopolitan in nature, and culturally rich. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in New Delhi. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions. The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable)..
