Work LocationHome-based Expected duration14 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Established in April 2012, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has a membership of over 150 Governments (see www.ipbes.net) and seeks to respond to the needs of governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services. Under the guidance of the IPBES secretariat's Head of Work Programme (responsibilities 2-4 below) and Head of Communications (responsibilities 1, 5-12 below), the Graphic Design Expert will: 1. IPBES 12 design: โ€ข Visual identity, including primers (due in late 2025) โ€ข Powerpoint templates for IPBES 12 (due in late 2025) โ€ข Powerpoint templates for Business and Biodiversity report launch (due in late 2025) โ€ข Venue branding for IPBES 12 (due in late 2025) โ€ข Social media props and frames for IPBES 12 (due in late 2025) โ€ข IPBES 12 event app and website elements (due in early 2026) โ€ข Venue branding for IPBES 12 for Business and Biodiversity report launch (due in early 2026) 2. Business and biodiversity assessment: โ€ข Design and layout of the summary for policymakers: about 50 printed pages; due by May 2026 โ€ข Design and layout of the assessment report: about 340 printed pages, including 60 figures and 40 tables, and a selection of photos; due by June 2026 3. Factsheets: โ€ข Layout of a maximum of five fact sheets for the business and biodiversity assessment due in July 2026 โ€ข Initial visual search for the (a) monitoring assessment and (b) spatial planning and ecological connectivity assessment; due by December 2026 โ€ข Re-design What is IPBES brochure; due in late 2026 4. Miscellaneous Design; due throughout 2026 Qualifications/special skillsAn advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Graphic Design, Communications, Public Information, visual marketing or a related field is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. โ€ข At least ten years of experience is required in graphical design work that covers the areas outlined under the roles and responsibilities section is required; โ€ข Good organizational and personal management skills are required, with ability to prioritize work issues to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and adjust to changing situations while maintaining focus on delivery and follow-through are desirable; โ€ข Experience in working with national or global scientific assessment processes is required; and โ€ข Knowledge and professional design experience of IPBES, biodiversity and environment-related matters is required.
